My 200x quit while riding along. I took the plug out and I get no spark. It seemed to be kinda weak when I checked it last, but it was enough to run. I put a test light on the stator and got no light...I switched stators with one that is good and no light still. Where do I go from here? Has anyone any suggestions on where to go next? Thanks to all who reply.

Check the resistance on your coil. I don't know the specs though...
anybody else?

I have been there and let me first say I am not an electritian. First off you should get spark (your test light will light up) if you hook the positive wire form the stator to either the ground or the negative wire coming out of the stator. Check the wires for a broken wire or bad connection. YOU CANNOT CHECK THE COIL OR CDI PULSE GENERATOR WITH A TEST LIGHT!! I found this out the hard way. I bought a non-returnable $75.00 CDI box. Also your ground wire that hooks to the coil CANNOT be between the frame and the coil it must be on the outside between the coil and the bolt head (why I have not a clue but thats just how it is). Hope this helps but if your not getting spark from your stator it sounds like a bad connection or maybe corroded magnets or something like that. Sorry kinda hard to pinpoint.

Thanks for the help. I am going to do some trouble-shooting tonight. I'll let ya know what I find. Thanks Footer...I know that the CDI and Coil cannot be checked with a test light only. I have another set of electrical that I know works. I have swapped out the coil, CDI box and stator with no success. I re-check all electrical connections.

Can someone describe EXACTLY how to check these components with a multimeter? I can't seem to get this thing figured out. Also can someone tel me where the ground is usually mounted? is it on the coil?

"I put a test light on the stator and got no light...I switched stators with one that is good and no light still"
None of that matters if your not getting power from your stator.
"Also your ground wire that hooks to the coil CANNOT be between the frame and the coil it must be on the outside between the coil and the bolt head"

Thanks for the tips guys....I still could not get reliable indications from my mulitmeter. I hooked red/white stator wire to the red wire on the multimeter and where do I ground the black wire on the multimeter? I checked a spare stator with no luck...then I found another one I had laying around, tried it and now I have spark!!!! On closer inspection I found the exciter coil to be seperating from it's mount, almost crumbling. This stator was rebuilt by RickyStator about 2 years ago for $100...I figured it would last a little longer. Anyway I am gonna get an aftermarket exciter coil and put it on the Ricky stator with the hopped up lighting coil. Any tips I need to know to when I wire in the new cexciter coil on the stator? Thanks guys.
