What is the best way to make Ice Racing tires?

This sunday hopefully I'll be racing some friends on a local lake and I was wondering how one goes about making their knobbies ice racing material. I also have one other question. I have heard you put screws in the tires for the traction, but I only have one set of tires so if I put the screws in them will they have to stay in or can I take em out after I'm done?

i have the same turf tamers i put short screws in tread not to go threw the "tire" just the tread but make sure u put in as direct center as u can use small thread post with big heads thatll do ya! but cant guarantee u the tread wont rip or losea screw when gettin on it.

Get some good ice screws, even if you can only get a box of 250, they will perform twice as good as 1000 regular screws. Get a short shank screw if you plan to take them back out, 1/2" shank should be fine. The trick is to air your tire up about 5 to 10 pounds past what you plan to run it at and then install the screws. This will make the tire grip the screw more when you deflate the tire to your normal pressure. One screw per knob is plenty, you can easyly get away with skipping every other knob. Tammers arent the greatest for this but for fun it will work. Run your tire pressure at about 10 psi or where your tire is level across the knobs. If you put the studs in at an angle you will be able to keep them from going all the way through and you will get better performance.
