on the upper fork it's chromed and slides through the dust seal but it has rusted and pitted abit on the left side...you think just sanding out the pits will be good enough? or does it need to be filled with something the polished? what do I do?

I dont think that would work. If i was going to do it anything at all, I would sandblast it. Way less distructive to the chrome at a lower pressure. Me personally, I would find me some on ebay.

Gary,
This may work because the 200es is a dry system in that it looks like it only requires grease..it has a sealed damper (shock) that does all it's work, and the dust seal just keeps the moving parts guided by neoprene spacers clean, so I'm hoping to just remove the rust and then revist it every other year for a cleaning.
Finding a used one without any rust would probably be impossible anyway.
