how to remove 250sx differential ???

I have a guy needing the differential off of this trashed '85 250sx i have. does anybody know hwo to get the differential off?? I dont have the tool to remove the swing-arm bolt so i cant take the swing-arm off. any suggestions?

i have had sevral of them out and i start at the rear of the trike.
i don't have the correct allens to drop the swing arm either.

how did you make out with your x at uncles house last weekend ???

well all i can say is he is a genius!( i cant even spell genius) lol I've never seen an engine in so many pieces with hopes of it running again. While we were there we replaced the rear axle-bearings, put a uni-filter on it, put a used clutch on it and tried to fix the kick-start. We finally got it all back together saturday evening just to find out that the kick-starter was still messed up. There is a washer in there that i think the spring pushes on and mine was bent. We put a stronger spring in there, and a washer that wasnt bent. We soon discovered that we should have put the bent washer back in. The spring was too much or something. So it is still there and he is going to work on it when he gets a chance this week and replace the whole kick-start essembly with one that honda fixed. What amazed me though was how it ran!! We pull-started it behind his 350'x and it fired right up and ran great. He only looked at the manual one time the entire time we were there and that was just to see the wear-limit on the clutch-plates. I know he was good and i didnt doubt him one bit but holy-#^#* i'm still amazed! Maybe some of his "atc-smartness" will wear off on me. :D

Your too kind Kevin / John. You 2 have forgot that I have been working on motors for well over 20 years. We have had the shop ( ATV's ) going for over 16 years. After working on a few of them you will gain the ability also.
I know I am human and I make mistakes also. But I am still PO'd at myself for not getting the kicker right the first time. argggggggggg

Removing the differential:
If it has the differential skid plate on it remove it first. ;)
Then:
1) Remove the wheels and hubs.
2) Remove the axle tubing on the left side of the differential ( it's connected tot he differential by 4 bolts )
3) remove the axle ( I can't remember for sure, but you may need to unbolt the brake assembly on the right side ( 4 nuts ) and remove it.
4) remove the 4 nuts that hold the front of the differential on.
5) remove the 4 bolts that hold the right side of the differential on.
6) remove the differential. You may have to wiggle it a little bit.

I didnt know exactly how long it's been but i did know you have been working on trikes and what-not for several years. You definately worked your way up to being as sharp as you are now and i know i personally have a very very long way to go to be even close as sharp as you are on that stuff. I still think it's amazing that you or anybody for that matter can disassemble an engine that much put it all back together and have it run so darn good without even looking at the manual.

I might get a chance to mess with that differential tonight. I did pull the left "axle cover" off and some powder fell out of the differential. I'm guessing it was rust. You think the differential is still good or will i have to tear it off and just check it out?? I dont know a whole-lot about this, everything i have ever rode has a good-ol chain and sprocket. :D

Thanks guys, I got the differential off, it was actually really really easy once i pulled the brake assembly off. I guess i just never really looked at it a whole lot before asking for help and i should have. Thanks again

Nope, I've never had the chance to ride a 350x. Actually the only trikes i have ever rode that i can think of is a honda 70, 90, 110, my 200x just a little bit and then we had 2 yamaha tri-motos that were a 125 and a 175. I've rode all kinds of 4-wheelers, motorcycles, honda odysseys, snowmobiles, jet-ski's, etc. though. As for the 350x, i've heard they are a great trike all around. Not too bad for trails or racing either i guess. I know it's not any faster than my quadzilla or the crotch-rocket i did 120 on so i'm not worried about it being too fast for me. :naughty: I look at it this way- as far as i know a 350x is pretty quick, good for trails or racing, howdy rides them so they cant be too bad of a trike and most of all it's a Honda :D I wont buy one until i ride it and make sure i like it and i am also comfortable on it and how it handles. I just mainly wanted to see what kind of price tag they come with.
