follow this one to see what it goes for: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42590&item=4531646759&rd=1

But of course it depends on the condition.

I am sure that is the one he is talking about since he is in the same area. But I would say around 1500$ is a fair price for a nice running tecate. Now mind you, the better the condition, the more its worth. I have seen them go to 2500$ for the right one..........peace

I lost a solid one to someone on ebay last month for 2950. Frame paint was worn, engine could use a cleaning and of course right shroud and headlight cover had small cracks. They are more rare, harder to get parts for than the 250R. I have never seen a mint showroom condition one. Thats what I'm working on. So I think the value for very clean ones is higher.

Okay, the guy told me that on this 86 tecate the float sticks a little. He said that if you tap on it that it will fix the problem. Is this something that can be fixed? And i was wanting to know if there is a place to buy a tecate front fender for an 86 model? Thanks again

You're right about it being the one off ebay. The guys reserve is set at 1500. You figure that i would have to work on the carb a little and buy a new front fender. So the total price would be around 1600 not figuring if there is other things wrong with it. Anyways, I have another option on a 86 250r that is like 3 blocks down. The guy wants 1800 for it and it doesn't come with a set of paddles. It's in fairly good shape too! Do you think it would be a better deal to go with the 250r since there is more parts out there and its not a 3 hour drive from me? Let me know some of your inputs. Thanks

I love the 86' Tacate but frankly I would get the R . Parts for the tecate are rare and VERY expensive. The honda on the other hand, well even though most parts are dicontinued, used parts are readily available everywhere.

HMMM... depends what you want. If you want something that is going to be worth more in some years, get the Tecate, but if you want something that parts are easy to find, get the R.

hahaha, R's are def more desireable and are worth more, you can sell the motor for 1000$!!! and why are tecates going to be more desirable than R's?

IMO it's cause there are far fewer of them

You both are right though.... I think a tecate that is in good running shape would probably be more desirable if they hard to find. The r's will be around alot longer if there is parts. I dont want to have a bike just sitting around that cant be ridden b/c of a discontinued part. I think i will look into the 250r instead. Thanks for your input
