When you head out for a day of riding.

Do you always bring a kit with you ?

What tools do you bring ?

Personally:

Vice Grips
8,10,12, and a few more mm wrenches
Universal screwdriver ( with changable tips)
Plug wrench
Needle nose
Knife
Elec tape or duct tape.
Band-Aids

That usually covers it.

Dammit!

2 spark plugs
channel locks
assorted wrenches
screw driver
matches
glow stick (in case i need to see in the dark)

Things I'd like to take but haven't figured out how to make enough room.

Tire plugging kit with co2 cartridges
Water

I leave it all at the truck. I do bring a tow strap. It does not matter how many tools you have with you the one you need will be at home.

The most important tool to bring is a buddy! Anything mechanical is replaceable, you leave it where it is broken and ride double back to the real world.

On my 350X, I carry the stock tool kit, two 6" cresent wrenches, a piece of hacksaw blade with duct tape for a handle, and a piece of rope. The two crecent wrenchs with the hacksaw blade and duct tape is for on the sand flag repair (not mine {usually}). Broken flag is the most common problem. The piece of rope for towing something off the sand gets used sometimes. The stock tool kit gets used rarely, usually to tighten up something that is coming loose, or to remove a gas tank to transfer fuel to another machine.

ATCnut is very prepped, he is like a rolling tool box. I think he stuff's enough supplies, part's and tools for a complete overhaul....lol
He was a great help anytime anyone brokedown at the coast trike event. It's hard to believe that a stock 350x tool storage box could hold so much, I'd like to see what he could do with a six-pack rack.......................

i use to think that was true until i got my 83r. all the other hondas i have owned worked great from dirtbikes/fourwheelers and other 3 wheelers. but this 83r i have gives me nothing but trouble but its just little things that go wrong.

i take a backpack with sparkplugs and tools (screw drivers, 10mm 12mm 14mm 17mm wrench, vice grips ) and something to drink. i don't really use the tool box i have on the bike because it is so small and sometimes i take a flash light with me when i go out riding by myself at night.

i leave everything at the truck and hope i can make it back if i need a tool.
all i bring is a partial tool kit of a big red, it has a spark plug wrench and some other stuff i dont know what to do with or what its for (spanner wrench, other wrenches) and i usually have a spare spark plug.

-2 or 3 spark plugs
-assorted wrenches
-small bottle of loc-tite
-wire
-fix-a-flat
-a couple napkins (once my dad got stranded in the woods and had to start a fire to keep warm at night. he only had a mapo...no matches. he soaked a little bit of the map in gas, then removed the plug and kicked over like he was checking for spark, but he had the map right there and it eventually caught fire and kept him toasty....hmm, wouldnt it be easier to bring matches??)
-matches :)

Stock toolkit, vice grips, tow strap, 2 extra spark plugs (need a carb rebuild), starter fluild, qt oil... thanks goodnees the trunk on my 200m is big... on the 110 I just bring the stock toolkit and an extra plug... the original owner of the 110 (my wife) took much better care than the folks that have owned my 200M in the past...

I do mostly exploring mountain trails sometimes alone due to nobody to ride with most times, Not fast riding but LONG rides.....
I carry the OEM kit under the seat along with an (2) extra plugs and a tow strap.
I have a small zip up leather shaving kit type bag (about 8" x 5") I keep in the box on my front rack.
It contains:
Waterproof matches
fire starter paste
bic lighter
Magnesium fire starter
foil emergency blanket
3-granola bars
some bandaids & gauze / tape
signal mirror

Also in the front box are:
Bota charcoal filtered water bottle
my .357 Mag. & 6 extra rounds.

In the rear trunk I carry a bottle of water and a tightly rolled up 6' x 8' tarp to be used for makeshift shelter. (it rolls into about a 6" dia. x 8" roll)

I'm sure it seems like overkill to some of you guys but over the years I learned you never know what will happen and it's better to be prepared.
Everything weighs about 5-8 pounds (pistol being the heaviest) but could save my ***** if stranded overnight.

You may wonder why I carry the .357, While riding my old Honda XL250s enduro in Montana about 4 years ago following deer trails through the hills I rode up on a guy who had 4 elk he had poached. I rode by about 50 yards from where he was working and he fired 3 shots in my direction. I dont know if he was trying to scare me away or just missed but I know that day the 250 didnt have near enough speed for my taste. I galled fish & game when I got back where I could get cell service and 3 days later It was in the paper that they arrested him, he also got charged with attempted murder but before it was over it was dropped to "negligent discharge of a firearm". Anyways, I learned the hard way you never know what you'll run into on the trails. Now days the 2 legged varmits are worse than the 4 legged ones.
Always be prepared
I think I am going to mount a 1,500 lb. ATV winch on the front rack of my big red....
Ya never know......... :naughty:

I usually ride alone and dont carry any tools.Tools are extra weight.I usually ride within 2-3 miles from home so if I have to walk home its no big deal.I've never had any any major breakdowns on the trail. I've only had to leave my machine in the woods one time.I was on one of my blasters that still had oil injection.I never checked the oil tank cuz I'm used to premixing.About 2 miles from home the motor started pinging bad and I knew something was wrong so I shut it off. After I found out the oil was bone dry I walked to the nearest road and luckily a friend was drivng by and gave me a ride home.I grabbed some yamagoop 2stroke oil and headed back to where the blaster was.I dumped the oil in and fired it up,let it idle a few minutes and took off riding again.Luckily I dont think i did any major damage to the motor,1 yr later and it still runs like a champ. The same day that happend I removed the gear from the oil pump and started premixing.
As far as riding alone and getting hurt.If I dont make it out alive It was meant to be and my time was up :D I went out doing what I love.

I have a rubber military knapsack (waterproof) and inside that I carry, jammed into a metal cigarette tin, a very cheap multi-tool, plug wrench socket, screwdriver, spare plug, enough oil for a complete change, extra fuel, one used litre of oil (for starting fires) matches, lighter, cell phone, flashlight, extra cigarettes, something to drink, chemical handwarming pouches ($1.49 for two and a fantastic asset for cold weather riding -- they are little pouches that you shake and they create heat all by themselves, then you shove them inside your gloves, disposable and enviro-friendly), rope, whistle, tire plugs, buck knife, and probably a bit of other crap I can't recall.
Often I'll add a small bbq, some meat, bbq sauce, plastic forks and often I'll bring along a 12-gauge shotgun or .22 rifle, just for fun.

I got too confident in my 85'R. Put alot of miles on it. I put the toolbox on the 350x. Man that was a long walk, the first fouled plug  Never again........... :beer
