I think I have a bent shifting fork as all my gears shift good except for 1st. It sits there and chatters a bit. Some times it goes into gear and goes for about 5 feet then pops out of gear. My question is do you have to split cases or can this be done on the right hand side? Its on a yt 125. Did search and couldn't find anything about splitting the cases to fix.

Yeah, that sounds like classic bent shift fork symptoms, especially the popping out of gear part - but - it could also be a rounded or chipped gear. Whatever the case, you need to get her apart. The good thing for you is my friend, you couldn't have picked an easier motor to work on than a YT125. Don't get discouraged - these machines of ours DO need fixing from time to time and I assure you, once you get it apart, fix the problem, and back together again, running, you will be extremely satisfied with yourself. Do yourself a favor though, get a manual ASAP, then dig in.
