wel well..what do ya know..a new stator and it runs!!..i figured that was the problem but..i didnt clean the carb..it took a few minutes to try and go but once it did it was good news..untill it happend..i was revving it up and then it backfired and shut off..it does burn oil..lol..alot...maybe more than the 185...anyway..it shutoff and i couldnt get it to even try to go anywhere...it just acted like it was not getting spark..i checked that..has a nice big one..i think 2 morow before work im going to change out the carbs from the 185 to it since its the same and i know the 185 works great...that and its got bigger jets too..and if it still doesnt owrk then i bet i blew a ring or something and ima have to redo the top end..no biggy..except for the fact that 2 of the allen head bolts for the valves and cam cover is stripped..lol..when i redo it ill prolly just put the 200x 12:1 in there..but at least i know it runs and will keep running..i hope..it leaks oil really bad too from the cdi unit...its got gaskets and all i just cant figure that out..i dont even know how its getting it there to get out in the first place..but it leaks alot..also the engine heated up very fast when it started...and the plug was dry black and it was a brand new one..when i changed the plug out to a cooler one it seemed to run the best..dunno y but it did..also the cooler one didnt get any buildup on it..and it was a old used plug...so ill prolly put the 200x 67 mm 12:1 wiseco and cylinder in there and see what happens..it ought to be ok..with that electric start i should be fine also..i hope..any comments on that?? elec start with 12:1 ?? anybody think they can diagnose the problem on it also so i can have it back up and runnin before spring break?? (march the 25th)..id like to go riding with some friends so im hopin itll work

Were you one the guys that got a new primary stator from hyperparts? If so how did you go about installing it?

yeah..its easy..* need solder and a soldering iron and a phillips screwdriver to do it..once * get ** flywheel off and get the stator assembly off you machine..heat up the soldering iron and melt the wire where it connects to the old coil..once htat is done unscrew the screws holding the stator coil on...put the new one in its place..tighten the screws and re-solder that wire back onto the little hole on the coil for it..its very simple and once * have your flywheel off and the stator assembly off the machine it takes about 5 minutes..reinstall it and ** flywheel and pullstarter..or stator cover and your done! yuo dont evne have to take the engine off the frame to do it

cool thanks..I probably have the same one as you 185 I got mine for the 200x. I dont have to take that white tape off there do I? Probably a dumb question but if I remember correctly the one that is in there now has the copper wires exposed. I think. My bike ain't here now so I cannot look. Or do I just mount it up as is. thanks again

no * dont need to take anything off the old coil besides the wire that connects to it..its the black/red striped one...DO NOT rip the wire out of the coding tho..lol..very bad things will happen and * will need to replace the whole stator assembly or rewire..lol...all * gotta do is take it out of the white box and menella package and put it on and solder that wire to it..lol...all the stator COILS for a 185-200 any model will interchange not the whole stator assembly but the stator coil will..the elec start ones look a bit different but they are the same..the wire is just mounted in a different spot...yea thats a stockk 200x stator coil..the copperwires exposed..what year?? they have some sort of glue over them..or silicone that you can even melt off very well..unless * get a big torch..hehe..anyway..yea..thats how the last stator assembly i got was..it was for a 200s but i put it on the 185..it worked ok but quit because i didnt have the pullstarter on and i ran it through a lot of water and burnt it out..lol..i electrical taped my last one...just to be on the safe side..lol

Yea its for the 85' 200x. Sorry to stray from your original post like this but as usual it did not come with instructions. On the side of the box it says primary stator coil fits ATC185/185s Atc 200. (#604-1350) There is a littleplace to solder a wire almost in the center of the coil and one on the end by the silver mounting bracket i guess you would call it. The copper is all wrapped in a white sort of protective tape I would guess. if I recall correctly the old one on my bike doesn't have that protective tape on it. Maybe that's why I'm not gettin spark to my plug. i would think getting it soaking wet would not be a good idea. lol Hopefully I'll get down there to install this and the other things electrical I've got to solve my problem. I have a diffrent wireharness, cdi box plugwire and starting coil or whatever the plug wire connects to and a new plug. hopefully replacing all this will giver er some spark. Anything else I can look at. Again thank you for your help.
Oh, Do I need a flywheel puller to take that off too?

for a 200x * dont need a flywheel puller..just take off the flywheel cover..the black cover that says honda on the left side of the engine..and its mounted on the inside of that cover..not under the flywheel like mine...yea they never come with instructions..lol..* sloder the wire on the little part in the middle of the coil..that side UP ...lol..i can almost gurantee this is ** problem..the stator coils always went out on the 185-200 models

anyone know y it wont run??? i changed the carbs out and this one looked like it had some sugar in the tank..it was white gritty stuff at least..its all nasty so i just put the 185 carb on there and its getting gas and spark but wont go...i think when it backfired it blew a ring or something so i may need to rebuild the top end..if not then o well but it did burn alot of oil and i dont think its getting good enough compression...im also going to check if it may have just jumped timing because the chain was pretty loose..when i rebuild it ill put a new one on there..or a good used one that i have laying around.lol i got about 3 d.i.d's..or i may just switch stuff from the 185 to it...i still havnt figured out the 185s problem but im not worried about it right now..at least i know this one will run..lol
