just re-added front brakes and when i grab them if i'm haulin a** my front end immediately drops 2-3" and i hear an audible clunk that i can also feel. seems like there is no oil in the fork legs. is this possible? what else should i look for? it's definitely in the forks somehow not in the steering head. that is still tight. i may get out after the nascar race today if it stops raining.(no garage)
thanks

hmmm...if the noise only happens when you hit the brakes....i would recheck them.sounds like they are possibly loose and jammin up some.if you can't hear any noise when you ride on bumps then i dought it is shocks...man i hate drum brakes.

i'll take a look later. i will check the oil also. should i be looking for any bubbles or certain coloring?

i have no experience with fork oil ,try dumpin the fork oil and refill with 180cc or 6.08oz with dextron tranny fluid or a 10Wfork oil.this info is from a honda sevice manual.

man... more memories of my oriignal 82 Big Red. The front fork bushings were shot... when ever I put on the front brake, it'd clunk as the lowers would tilt against the uppers. When you put on your brake, look down the fork and see if you see any play in the lower forks against the upper fork tubes.

The ironic part, is that we bought the plastic sleeve3s to fix the forks, but the front end wouldn't come apart. We got rid of it before we messed with it. The Honda OEM parts for it are still hanging up in the shop!

One of my 250sxs has that clunk, it is caused by the brake assembly banging against the stop on the fork. There is a square nipple that the brake assembly goes around, the nipple is what keeps the brake from rotating with the tire. I put some thin rubber gasket material around the nipple, between it and the brake assembly. this stopped the clunk.

As to the front end diving when you put on the brake, that is normal for all trike front brakes
