Saturday I went and picked up a 84 tecate 3. It has a new topend, and some other things. The kid said it ran a couple of years ago but it would just rev to the sky as soon as you started it. So I bring it home and pulled out the spark plug and squirted some gas in the cylinder and gave her a kick. Braap, she fired right up and it ideled ok for a second and then just started revving untill it ran out of gas. I think the proble is my intake boot that goes from the carb to the reed block. It is very dry rotted and cracked. Also I have a couple of Q's hopefully someone will be able to help me with,
1- does anyone have a picture of how the wires on the coil are supposed to be mounted? when you kick it sparks ark from around the coil quite violently.
2-Anyone know of where I can get some new aluminum wheels for it, or what other models rear wheels will fit on it.
It appears to be all original down to the tires (except fro the new top end) but the kid tried to make it look like one of the red ones, he painted all the plastic except the gas tank red. It dosent look that bad but I had to do something about it. So I started stripping them with the laquer thinner and I got the red paint off but the plastic is so faded it is almost like a grayish white color. So I am going to leave the rear fenders red for now.

Congrats on the purchase, douglas makes wheels for them, 4 x 4 is the bolt pattern.

Not sure of what things are causing your problems, but I picked up 2 84 T3s on Friday along with a few boxes of parts. I might have some stuff you need.

Well I am going to go pick up my parts today ot thursday for it and hopefully it will run correctley. It came with a carb off of an 85 on it and the original one that has been bored out a bit but I am not sure as o how far it has been bored.

I put my new intake boot on and still nothing. SO I drained the gas and it looked like 10w-30! SO I mix up some new gas for it and it just starts spewing out the overflows. I took the carb off and cleande it and now there are no leaks. Engine started sucking and then I started to hear a squeak when I kicked it over. There was an air leak at the base of the cylinder, whoever put the piston in it put a new gasket on but never scraped the chunks of the old one off. So I got a new gasket and she fires right up now but it will idle ok far a second but as soon as you give it gas it will rev up and then stay there. If you leve the choke on half way it will idle ok but as soon as you shut it off it will die. SO what do I need to adjust? Thanks

Also are these known for viberating something awfull? I mean the whole dang thing shakes so bad it feels like my hands go numb instantly. I feel it all over, but the handle bars and the foot pegs are the worst.

Foot pegs suck, my feet will go numb with them vibrating, the handle bars dont bother me though.

if 1 of the reeds are cracked doesnt it rev up? i had a kdx that would idle, then you touch the gas and away it would go! it revved so high i cant believe it didnt blow! i did 1 thing at a time,it finally stopped after i replaced reedcage reeds intake boot, also,i take it that the carb slide is returning when you let off the gas and not sticking? sounds like carb trouble though...

well i just came in from messing with it a little bit more. The slide does close all the way. I have now determined that if I hold the choke arm up just enough for like a penny to be wedged into it will idle and rev up like normal, I think and then it will return to normal.

if your slide doen't go down all the way it might be because you have it in wrong. There are two pins 180 degrees apart from each other. One is bigger that the other and you have to have it in the right slot on your slide or it wont go down all the way. Just an idea, i've had it happen once.

Um i had my motor rebuilt all the way because I thought Itr was suckin air. I would start it and it would wind out. I get her in and start her up and it just whines out. It did this everytime. I kept Checking The Idle Screw, and doing the one and a half turn thing. Well my buddy says scew it all the way out. So I unscrewed it and it stopped revving high. Ive never seen a carb that the idle screw is screwed all the way out then in 1.5 turns. I hope my motor needed to be rebuilt because if it was the idle screw I should kick my own nuts
