Found this on ebay the other day. The company is here in Ohio, and it's only $200! Here's what their desciption says:
Description
You are bidding on the ACCU-START Compression Release modification made by Accu-Products.com for convenient starting of big bore bikes. Start your bike as easy as a 125 by simply depressing the thumb lever mounted on the clutch perch. Used by David Hand on his Honda CR500 while competing in the AMA 500cc Nationals a few years back. He said, "I like to save my energy for the race, not starting my 500!" You must send in your cylinder for the machining and installation of the valve. It has no adverse effects on power. Great for Suzuki 500 Quads. Too bad Service Honda 500 don't come stock with these. All World Championship WORKS 500 used compression releases if you look closely at old photos. Why break a leg kicking a beast, tame it and use your tennis shoes from now on!
What do you guys think? Worth the money?!?!

hey thats sorta a neat modification, but if ya cant kick over a beast then you might wana build up your leg muscles by weight lifting or something, the hardest thing ive ever kicked over and started was my yamaha 1100cc touring motorcycle when the batery whent dead on me, and my 350x.

I'm STILL waiting on my triples. Only been 3 months now. So I haven't got the cylinder off yet. Did you do this mod? Or just read about it?

There is an easyer mod you can do and it will only cost you about $15 to $25 tops with parts. I've seen it done and saw how good it works. I will try to find the part needed and post it.

Ok, here is a pic of what is needed. You drill out your head and tap it to accept this valve. Once the bike starts it closes the valve automatically. You can find these on ebay and it looks like they are selling them in pairs for $53.00 They are meant to be used on a harley but the one I saw in operation on a cr500 looked like it worked great. Team up with someone and buy a pair and you have a compression release for about $26.50 :beer

The busted toe wasnt due to compression...poorly placed footpeg on an 86 T3. :(
I could have used one though...a few years back my brother had an 87 KX500 that we pulled the engine and sent off to have work done on it, it was a beast to kick...but when you did get it to fire...WOOOHOOO!!!
I put the kicker thru a sneaker before and turned the sole of my foot purple. Did that once. Boots from that point on.

I'd like to know too. Your idea had me thinking of other projects I'd like to do and this seemed like the ticket. I know they work on the bikes, they've been being used for a long time.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you but I've seen it work first had. It was installed in a very strong cr500, I might add he had installed it in a cool head but I can't see that making much of a difference. He pushed the button once and the bike started every time. I will say, it was on a drag bike that only runs 300 feet at a time so I have no idea how it would work on a bike you rode more often.
