? on big red

[the 80s rule]

Last week a bought a nice 85 Red I was changing the oil today and near the oil filter cover there is a screw labled increase and decrease what does it do? I hope it's the horsepower adjuster 'cause you can always use more. Also what else sould I do for mantanence ot has been sitting for awhile and I'm going to ride as much as I can. Thanks

yeah its ** clutch adjustment i just recently had to adjust mine thought the clutch was gone but this fixed it i think ** supposed to turn it all the way back then ahead one full turn

nope.

all the way out.. then in 1/4 turn.

Then lock the outer nut.

Thanks, the clutch is ok as far as grabing but sometimes it will seam to clunk into the next gear. The other thing is sometimes when I'm backing up and it spins the tires (like in a snow pile ) it will make some noise in the rear end.
What sould I look at as far as the shaft drive goes ?

not much to check with the shaft part. but i would suggest removing the oil fill cap on the rear end ( big 20 something mm cover ) and check the level and condition of the oil ) it should be filled up to the threads once you remove that cap, and if it's grey/milky or gritty in any way, drain it and refill it ..

Prop the frame up on blocks and raise the rear wheels, check the condition of the swing arm bearings and the sheel bearings.

that about covers it.

oh. and make SURE your wheels are on tight and that you have cotter pins on the hubs, don't wanna strip those splines !!

I thought 85's were only made overseas? If its been sitting for a long time you should clean out the carb too
