Well, after all the blood, sweat, and tears it's finally done haha. Been working on it for quite sometime now, glad it's finally done now. It has new fenders, restored gas tank and side covers(thanks Clay!), headlight guard, floorboards/brush guard, cobra utility exhaust system, speedometer, electric winch w/handlebar switch, all new decals(Harlan is the man!), and the original stock Ohtsu tires.

A special thanks to Clay(ClayW) for doing an awesome job on restoring/painting the gas tank and side covers. He did an amazing job making them look brand new. I'd highly recommend him if you want to have a metal tank restored to new. Thanks Clay :beer

Well let me know what yall think, I'm posting as many pics as I can :D

Now that's a real gem! Really, really nice! EXCELLENT work!!

What's the small rectanguler box on the L handlebar for?

That switch on the left handlebar is for the winch...I'm posting 2 more pics, I've had to crop them down some since the file size was too big haha.

Oh man, thats nice!!! I have a couple of questions. How loud is the Cobra Utility pipe? And your seat, did you get a new cover from Honda? Or have it done somewhere else, or just lucky enough to that nice of an original? That is one of the nicest Big Reds I have seen in a while. I used to think mine looked fairly nice till I saw those pics. Great job.

Haha thanks, well I do plan on driving it....just not burying it in mud or anything like that of course lol. I like riding a clean bike haha.

The Cobra utility pipe is not very loud..just a little louder than stock. The utility pipe is longer than the other cobra pipe which is very loud. The utilitly pipe has the built in spark arrestor too I think. I recovered that seat myself and made a stencil of the Honda logo for it. thanks for the compliments

Thats good to hear, I was considering the Utility pipe but most of the other Cobras I have heard have been loud. Thanks for the info.

Fantastic, I love it. Great job on restoring it. I have two ??'s. Where did you get the speedometer + cable or do you know where I can get them? also does the speedo cable hook up to the front wheel or to the drive shaft or somewhere else?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I got the speedometer and cable both off ebay. Your best bet is too keep looking on ebay as they do pop up on there sometimes. Also, you can check with the Honda dealers in your area, they sometimes will have some old speedo kits and stuff. The speedo cable hooks to a gearbox on the front axle of the bike, the spinning of the front tire is what works the speedo.

I was wondering if you have any pics of the pipe close up. I was wondering if I could get a big red pipe to fix my SX and I need to see how similar the pipes are.
Thank you and you have a very nice trike.

The header pipes are different on the SX and ES. They are routed thru the frame differently. :beer

For starters, that winch is bada$$, I would love to do that to my Dads SX just so I can go anywhere with little effort. It looks awsome congrats and the hard work.

WOW Pat, where did you find a 2005 Big Red? :D It rocks man, I mean I dunno what to say it's awesome. Oh yeah the winch is awesome!

Are those Hondaline brush guards or another company? You will love em' cuz I really like mine.

One thing I think your speedo cable is supposed to run on the outside of the fork.

Awesome trike!
Phil

Hey thanks, it's actually an '04 model lol. Yeah, the winch looks pretty good mounted there. I'm not sure who made the brushguard, I got it used from another guy a while back, not sure if Honda ever made them or not..

Very, very nice...but I'd chuck the wench...that would rip that frt. rack off first time you use it, pack a power puller in a rear bag when your going deep.

Those are the Maier fenders, don't think that they have the oem ones available anymore. Yeah the winch may be more for looks, but I have used it before with no problems.

One thing I think your speedo cable is supposed to run on the outside of the fork.

Forget that, I checked mine today and you got it right, guess I was getting it mixed up with a 350X.

What you need now is a plow and a horn, and if you can find one a hondaline fairing.

That winch gives me some ideas for my BR, I will TRY to convince my dad, hehe.

Thats one hot bigred mate. You did a great job. Did you restore the motor too or was it just in that good condition when ya got it? The winch is great. Dont worry bout it ripping off the rack, those bigred racks are strong as anything. I know from experience. Good work Mate!

Hey atcMatt, I just cleaned up the motor and repainted it with some engine paint. I let it cure on there for over a week without starting it up or anything...came out good. Yeah those racks on the big red are very strong haha.
