I picked up my 400ex this weekend. I bought it a few weeks ago on ebay and finally got a chance to get it yesterday.
After riding it for awhile today it makes me regret ever buying the Banshee. This thing just fits me perfect. I know it will never blow everything away on the drag strip but I'm so happy with the way it runs, rides and handles it doesn't matter.

And also a much better trail bike than the shee.....I think so anyway. I do enjoy a 2 stoke, but I like to flat track it more than anything. I like a 4 stroke on a trail where terrain changes constantly- and you're right...the 400 ex is perfect. Wished I still had one.

I plan on doing suspension mods to it very soon. I'm gonna leave the motor stock for this season, other then maybe a KN filter or something.

Did you get a deal on the 1999? How are the stock shocks? Great looking quad.

I thought I got a good deal and a stock motor until it died Sunday morning. The shocks are in good shape, I just ride trails fairly aggressive and want some aftermarket shocks.
Suspension parts are on hold until I get it running again.

Nice looking machine, clean for the year. What happened to make it die. You still getting spark and all that? I'm sure you'll figure it out and it'll be fine. I bought a 250r once, first ride the piston melted, didn't know I knew some of the language I used.

I had works shocks with rezzies on my 400ex and liked them a lot, elka's or custom axis would be even better. Looks like it's pretty clean for a 99, my brother has a 99, thing is in mint shape.

Whoever the idiot was that installed the hotcam didn't tighten the bolts that hold the cam gear on. The bolts came loose and started eating out the side of the head and the rocker box before they came all the way out. That caused the cam gear to get bent in half and the cam gear retainer to break off. I have aluminum and metal flakes everywhere in my oil system now. I just got done tearing it completely down to see what all damage it caused. From what I see I got damn lucky and its gonna be a fairly cheap fix. Just crappy I only got to ride it maybe 1 hour of ride time when it crapped out.

My boy and I cleaned the exhaust pipe for ya tonight. I'll try and remember to post a picture for ya. It looks like new again. Thanks for the heads up on my dirty pipe. Now that its clean it should flow better and give more power.

Thanks man...it should give you a few more HP as well. If you get it cromed, you'd better hold on!

Welp it runs again. Motor is nice and quiet. Now that I have it running properly, I realize that it had that problem when it bought it. I just hope I got all the metal shavings cleaned out so it doesn't cause more damage later on. I'm gonna change oil 2-3 times here right away.
