Use this post for a SPELL GUIDE!!!
If people could could learn to spell simple words like "you", "your" "you're" "before", "be", and "are" , no *'s will show up in their posts. It even allows the incorrect use of "your", "you're", and "youre" interchangebly yet it still baffles some who are more "challenged". If you see a * or a ** in somebody's posts, it should be read as warning that the poster is not capable of spelling these simple words semi-correctly.

I type with 1-2 fingers, and I don't make near the spelling mistakes that some do. If I don't know the spelling of a word I put ( sp? ) after it. As far as failing English goes, I totally disagree with you there. Remember we are the ones wanting people to quit typing like a idiot. Common sense tells me these users are the ones that failed English. You can't tell me they teach kids these days to use a single letter in place of you, or any of the other ones that get used. It's a NO BRAINER there.

Well...

I " Personally " think those ***'s are a pain, this is the internet, not English class.

I'm a member of a good dozen forums, from woodworking<-- these guys canot spell for the life of them... to smallbusinessforums <-- a whole lot better grammar... and this is the only forum that does this.

And really...... I think that the moderators are more bothered by spelling probs and typos than members... and i would rather see the letter * instead of a star to represent YOU, BUT . that's just me i guess.. either way one can still figure out the information so it's not that big a deal.

Maybe have a poll for everyone.. and see who prefers the filter and who would rather have the short form.

I think I can sum it up nicely for you guys that have a problem with it.

It's their forum and they can do whatever they want with it.

We don't pay to use this place but somebody is footing the bill. When you're a guest in someone's home you follow their rules. You wouldn't go into a friends parent's house, use inappropriate language and then argue with them when they ask you to stop it.

Not using jeffk shorthand is a small price to pay to be able to use these forums in my opinion. ;)

As moderators we are obligated to put up with a lot of crap, and listen to a lot of complaining. (nothing makes everybody happy, believe it or not) But we certainly do not have to take abuse. You were given ample opportunity to edit your post and express your opinion like an adult. You refused. Come back in 10 days, and try again.

well i have never been really good with speeling or grammer......but i was asked to atleast make an atemped to type better......i mean it really only takes about an extra second to type you instead of * the same goes for are and r.....i use to use the r * and things like oic and it really will only add about a second or two to type your mesage.....and i agree this is the forum they pay the bill.....they keep it updated and get rid of the scammers when one shows up.....so give them some credit.....it is a very small task they have asked of you.....just help them out and do it....or i agree 100% with them if they bann you

He got ten days for REFUSING to edit out the name calling and the personal attacks! What part of that is so difficult to understand? We are the #1 Three Wheeler related site on the net and in the world - you guys all have contributed to that is some way, even if its just by being a member. I can tell you - bash us MOD's if you want to - but - having rules, good, simple, sensical rules that keep things as professional but also as fun and informative as possible, has also played a big part in 3WW's success. If you honestly do not have the ability to spell "you" or "your" and the best you can come up with is "yoo" and "yore" it will not affect you.

I am gonna disagree with this one guys. There are some emotional whatever going on here, that I cannot even begin to put to words. Is this truley worth what has surfaced? I dont think the Moderators should even have to justify their actions. It is their site and we dont pay for the services, however it does provide us with usefull information everyday we need it. A service FREE[/*] of charge, how marvelous! I defiantely agree with the removing of all shorthand crap that is always on this forum. Other things that tick me off is the lack of punctuation and even simple things like not starting off your sentences with a CAPITAL[/*] letter. Have a good think about just how much harder it is too type 2-3 extra letters in a word? What does it take, about 1 sec MAX[/*]! Shorthand is just laziness.

From my point of view, its about how this is a free service, and in return we ask that people put fourth a general effort when typing their posts. I have seen many people who's native language isn't even english do better then some of these guys. Even Bluetraxx.com, one of the larger quad forums has enacted a similar rule except they are deleting any post that does not have propper grammar in the thread title: http://www.bluetraxx.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=677585#677585 The thing is when there has been a sticky topic on the top of this page for the past 2 years. Its in the forum Terms of Service when you sign up, and users have been directly refered to that same post via posts in other threads or PM. It still continues to be a problem because they feel it is their right. Then the same people who feel they have this right insult the moderating team and think they have done nothing wrong.

So, to sum it up it is about:

#1 We give everyone a free service.
#2 We ask that in return you make an effort to type your posts in propper english.
#3 Some people refuse and feel like they shouldn't have to.
#4 Same people insult moderating team because they think they shouldn't have to and tell us to deal with it.
#5 Same people are given time off for insulting moderator team.


Atleast thats how I see it, your mileage may vary.

Let me start off by saying that this is the finest trike site I have ever visited. I "lurked" here for a long time before joining, and found a wealth of knowledge here. I find the shorthand annoying myself and think the mods did the right thing. The person that was banned was warned but seemed to continue on with his remarks after his lame apology. If you don't like playing by the boards rules go elsewhere, where your shorthand will be appreciated. If you are too lazy to type two additional letters that is just sad.

I would like to say thanks to the moderator team and the administrator that keep this great site going, I have spent countless hours here reading and you all have done a great job in my opinion. :beer

I'm actually glad that you guys put a filter on all the shorthand typing. That way, all I have to do is scan the post and if there is a bunch of *'s in it, I can just skip over it. It will save me time and frustration of trying to figure out what it all means. Great way to clean up the forums too...If they get in the habit of typing legibily (sp?) here, then they might continue to do so at other forums or even in the chat room.

I totally agree K1500, I also "lurked" around before I joined and then I decided too. My best decision in awhile, I love it here. Nice people, good mod's, just as a example-
I am a current member on another forum and you say one wrong thing, and all the people want to bite your head off, it is ridiculous. Here, its nice, im not sayng that you can go around saying stupid stuff all the time. But here they calmly ask you to revise your post.
Whatever the mod's want they got it, I spend probably to many hours here (haha) but I love it. Best forum I have been too and I am for sure here to stay!
