ok here is the deal. I bought this thing in non-running condition. well i rebuilt the carb and it ran fine started first kick and all. never rode it though i dont know what i was waiting for. anyway. my friend decides that he will ride it without my permission. said he took it up the street and it just died. now it wont start at all. the plug sparks and their is gass geting to the car. the scary part of this thing is i tried the starting fluid trick last night and the fluid actuall caught fire and i had to put it out. now my question to you is whaere do i go from here how bad is it. any ideas will help im at the end of my rope. it's a 1985 xr200r

ok does it have good compression? also are you able to do a compression check on it if so let me know what it is it should be around 130-150psi also when it caught fire did it shoot out thru the carb? if so it sound like maybe timing or the intake valve might no be seating good or spring is just weak.

i havent done a compression check and dont know how but it did fire through the carb into the air box

go to your local auto parts store or if a friend has 1 you can borrow it's called a compression gauge there about $25 to buy.
