Jeez, it seems like everyone is having carb issues lately.
So here's where I am on my Z. I recently swapped out my 34mm for a 39mm. This carb was used and needed some attention. I have installed a new choke assembly and a new slide assembly. Thruout this tuning process, I discovered my reeds were bad and replaced them with some new Boyessens. I also completely disassembled, cleaned with carb cleaner and reassembled the entire carb.
The issue is in the idle circuit. It seems as if I can't get it lean enough! My carb came stock with a 055 pilot jet, I'm now down to a 048 pilot jet and it just now will idle, with the idle screw about 1 turn from being bottomed.
I also have my needle set all the way down, which seems to cause a transition bog. (It's always had that but even worse so now) I'm going to drop my pilot even further tommorrow, 1 or 2 jet sizes, hoping to get my idle screw out further. I'd like to have more adjustability with the idle screw if I need it.
That, to me, is insane! I can't believe that my pilot jet would need to be that lean!
