My 250r came with a UNI air filter and doesn't have the metal cage that goes inside the air filter. Is it fine without the metal cage?

I would think it should be fine. Those cages are usually found in just the 4 strokes I thought. They are in case a 4 stroke backfires through the intake. Will stop the air filter from catching fire. It's a rarity though but it can happen.

The UNI filter for my '85 250R did not come with a cage in it and it has been working fine for about 3 years now. Same with the ones for my 200X's. Since they are clamp-on instead of screw-on like the dirtbike filters, I don't see the need for a cage.

The UNI we got for my friend's CR250 didn't come with a cage, but we had to get one from Honda since aparently the previous owner had lost the cage, otherwise the filter would not seal against the air box at all. The cage was plastic and about $15 on special order.
