Id love to add a speedo fro my 200s. In the ebay forum, someome posted this up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4539715893&category=43971
I know it not complete (duh) but what would i need to complete it? Would it be extremely hard to do? Where does that part go? I assume on the front wheel somewhere.
I really want to pick this up, but its probably not worth it unless I can get all the other parts for it.
So please let me know, and thanks for reading,
Mike

Hey Mike
you also need a cable, mounting bracket, and speedo it self...
cable is'nt a problem....all honda speedo cables are the same(street bikes etc) you just need to measure the distance between the gearbox and speedo bracket...
mounting bracket is a litte harder but you could make one no problem....
the speedo units come up all the time on ebay.....some in KPH and some MPH the proper ATC speedo's come up now and again but go for good money($150)

Hey Deepa, if you get that speedo drive piece and this kit on ebay, you will then only need the speedo head which is easy to get. Here's the kit for the 200es:

But its measured in KM/h...how would i fix that? And that is everything I need other than a speedo head which i can get from service honda for 50 bucks? If thats true, im gonna get it. As long as i can get it to read in MPH
Thanks for your help as always,
Mike

this is the reply he gave me
I can't locate the drive needed to do that. These items are discontinued from Honda because of the age. It would be in KM/H sorry
is this correct? I want a speedo but i dont want km/h haha.
If you guys think he is wrong, i will still buy it.
Thanks,
Mike

All you need for a speedo in mph is a speedo head that is in mph. The rest of it is interchangeable for both.

I believe Maine Triker is referring to the one I bought off Service Honda... was like $50 and change.... 08E80-VM4-100 ? (that's off my memory....) anyhow, that's for the one with the chrome top and the "old school" font and red internal ring. I posted a pic of it in the ebay forum under Pat blackwells thread about "I thought these are rare...."
The part number for the one that came with my 350X kit was 08E80-HC4-100 ... it's exactly like the Honda ATC one, except Honda is centered and no ATC.
If you look at a mph and a kph speedo side by side, the only difference is the increments of the the scales. The "internals" of the speedo and the gearboxes are the same, just the placement of the face paint to indicate the desired speed is different. That make sense?
Oh.... I learned something new about speedo kits the other day.... the 85-86R kit has a sub-wiring harness that feeds the speedo illumination light all the way from the rear taillight sockets! My 350X and 82R and the 200/185/110 kit all have wires at the headlight/steering stem to wire in the speedo light. Interesting! (PS - John... that was the "extra wires" I got from the Banned and Nameless! - mystery solved!)

I remember when I bought my 87 200x new that I went ahead and got the speedo and the tach that went with it. Seems like now I can't find either. Such hard gems to find.

Where do you look to get a part number for these? I have a parts book for my 87 200x, but nowhere in it does it mention the optional tach and speedo. Where would I look?

I usually snoop around by guessing a bit... and seeing what comes up. For example, if I know the 5 digit front #, I change the middle 3 numbers for the "model code" I'm trying to find.... Example.... 08175 is speedometer. I'd then mix that with Ha5 - 350X, Ha2 - 85-86R, 961 - 81/82R, etc....
I know what you are saying.... I have tons of Honda part number schematics for all my trikes, but they don't list the Hondaline stuff in there. The only exception I found, was a page on the air cooled 250R's that had part numbers for the 300R kit parts by Hondaline.

Yeah Bruce, I think you are the only one who has a Honda speedo head that I have seen other than in old brochures. I saw a speedo in a 350x brochure that was all black and didn't say Honda or Honda ATC on it. I wonder if that was just a prototype for the brochure, I'd rather it say Honda at least. Those Honda ATC speedo heads in km/h keep popping up on ebay lately from a guy in Canada.

SOrry to bring this back, but I'm trying to get the speedo to come up on service honda, and I can only get 08E80-HC4-100 that one to come up. It says gear, (trx 300) and it costs 60 bucks. Is this correct? Whats the right part number for the old school one bruce was talking about? His doesnt bring anything up.
Thanks,
Mike

Hey guys, I got the number I needed. I looked in another previous thread and found the correct part number.
It is 08E80-HM4-100 for anyone that needs to know. Bruce put HC4 instead if HM4

Hmm... that's wierd, I was pretty sure that part number was 08E80-HC4-100.
Look what this eBay seller said:
SPEEDO/ODOMETER UNIT IS HONDA PART # 08E80-HM4-300 - WE ARE IN CANADA SO THIS IS IN KILOMETERS PER HOUR NOT MILES PER HOUR!!
FOR A SPEEDO IN MILES PER HOUR CHECK WITH YOUR US HONDA DEALER FOR PART # 08E80-HC4-100 - WE CANNOT GET THEM HERE IN CANADA
:wondering :wondering :wondering :wondering
Before ordering anything I would go to your Honda dealer and run the part numbers there, Service Honda might have screwed up.

08E80-HM4-100 SPEEDOMETER, ATV 66.95 48.84 <--- order this.
HC4 is the speedo I had on my Showgirl that is all black and same font as the "ATC" ones..that one superceeded the "ATC" ones....which inturn was then superceded by the HM4 one.... In fact, I'm starting to think that the first 5 numbers might have been different too, at least on the ATC ones.. I'll have to check the boxes.... The one above is the correct part number for MPH with the chrome and red faced on that's on my 82R.
Bruce
PS - That's OK Maine_Triker... just snipe another one on ebay from Swinehart.... you don't need the part numbers that way! :D

Bruce, thanks, I already orderd the speedo that you said. Thanks for all of your help.
All I have to do is hook up the speedo to the cable and mount the speedo on the mounting bracket, and im all set right? I know there are a few wires to hook up but i can figure that out.
The kit I bought came with come other crazy **** that I have no idea what is for. Maybe its just for teh 200e while mines a 200s. I dont know, only time will tell.
THanks,.

LOL. Actually on that auction my high bid was only like $2 higher then John's. And I didn't snipe it, I just put in my bid at the last second :D.
I'm done spending over $50 for speedo dispays tho, that one was/is for my 350x (if I ever find the other parts), I didn't want to put one of those old-school ones.
We'll be putting an old-school one on the 200e though, because it is an old-school trike!!!!
Later--
Phil
