I went to check out an 86 350X that a guy has been selling localy. I have been watching it for about a week now so I stopped in to check it out. It is in pretty good shape overall, mostly OEM, some riveted plastic but nothing major, and a aftermarket exhaust; even all the lighting worked. Looking good so far until I took it for a ride. Here is where my question comes in; the 350X was slow as dirt!! As I rode it seemed to be held back, the power was there, something was just restricting it so to speak. My stock 85 200X would of ran circles around it (strange?) The only other thing I noticed was it clunked a little when you shifted gears, nothing you could hear you could just feel it. So tell me the in's and out's what could cause this and how can I fix it if I buy it and is it worth the money he is asking 975.00

Not knowing for sure, I would say no. Sounds internal. Internal no fun. You are asking a possible that. Who knows may not be, but it would be enough to shy me away. There was a perfectly good running 86 here in Boise for 1200. An 86 250r didnt hear it run here in Nampa for 1300. I say wait. Or he or she needs to drop their price majorly. Did you ask why no power, or go?

I had the same problem with mine, I had an 85 and when I got it ( i bought it without riding it :wondering ) I think something was up with the compression like a leak or something, then i bought a new motor and boy let me tell you it was balls to the wall form there on! Id bet if i only got a simple rebuild it would have been fine.

Are the brakes stuck on? Does it roll easy in neutral with engine not running?

Sounds like a worn out POS. Next it. A 350x is all about power. Ride a good one and you will know what I (we) mean.

I had the same problem, I bought a 200x and 350x together, dragraced them on my drag strip and the 200x Smoked the 350x. I worked on it some, and fianly checked the brakes, the parking brakd had coroded in the lock position, so i disconnected the cable and turned the lever on the caliper with some pliers.

hey, stuck brakes, bad axle bearings, low tires, or worn sprockets/chain.
