headlight trouble???

I have a 1983 honda atc 200E 3 wheeler the headlight will only burn when i have a battery on it could anyone tell me some things that i could try so that the headlight will burn without the battery

Either your charging/lighting coil is toasted, or your wiring is messed up somewhere. Get a manual, and go through the wiring against the diagram and make sure everything is hooked up correctly. There is probably a fuse somewhere too, make sure it is good.

Does the electric starter work? does the neutral light light?
