will a cr250r carb fit on a ATC 250R? What size does the bike have? Is it too big?

The CR250's carb size depends on the year of the bike. The mid-80's & newer bikes had at least a 38mm carb on them. If I remember correctly, Honda tried a 40mm carb for a few years also. Regardless, you should be able to wedge a CR250's carb into your 85-86 ATC250R.

The 85R came stock with a 34mm round slide and the 86 with a 34mm? flat/oval slide. A 38mm CR 250 carb will fit, but depending on your motor mods and fuel flow needs it may be too much carb, but it could possibly be jetted down to work.

First, sorry for the posting twice. I am planning on a pipe (esr or PT) and some reeds until the motor goes boom or start to loose compression. Will a 38mm be to big for that? I have seen lot post with similar mods. Maybe a head gasket compression bump before the rebuild.

I don't know about the carb, but the CR headgasket trick does help. I also put a Boyesen Rad Valve on my '85 R and throttle response is quicker. I'm happy with both those mods. Otherwise, the motor is all stock and the only other thing not stock is the silencer and UNI air filter with no airbox lid. Hope that helps some.

It has power reeds right now and I plan on a K&N with no airbox lid to go with a esr pipe and silencer.

Sounds like a good plan :). Let us know how the ESR pipe works out!
