I was going to keep this a secret and reveal it at Trikefest05. I was originally going to bring my red tri-z to Haspin; but its just to darn nice to race and bang bars with. So I had a brainstorm one night. I have a ton of parts just sitting here, why not throw a rolling chassis together and borrow the motor from the red tri-z. SO far I have about 25-30 hrs and $230 in prep and paint. The paint is flourescent rose from House of Kolor.I added some multicolor metalflake to the clearcoat. I used Krylon fusion paint on the plastic and clearcoat/metalflake on top of that. This was my first attempt at painting plastic. I got carried away with the clear in a few places :0
If I wasnt waiting for parts, I'd be reassembling some of it today.
Its been awhile since I put a Z together,I forgot how many parts it has compared to a blaster.
I'm still trying to figure out why 1 man would spend so much time building such a nice 3 wheeler to go race in the mud ??? :) DirtWheels maybe?

These pics are of the frame/parts from white basecoat to pink, and the clearcoat.

Here's a few of the plastic. I spent some time fixing up an old # plate I had.It used to have a plastic mesh background.I cut a piece of signboard to fit and covered it with a black #plate background. The frame was yellow. The rest of the plastic was black and faded.I also had to fill in some holes on the rear fenders where it had fender extensions.I could kill the idiot that put them on.
ANyways,,the pics

Just follow the instructions that come with it, If you give your paint to much hardner it will get brittle or to soft it will scratch easily. you could also talk to a clerck at a automotive paint store and get there .02, you could also add a lot of clear coat to get a brillaint shine and better protection, I am not a paint expert but I do know a little on the subject.

All I need to do is look at the parts and I can already tell that thing is going to be bad ass when its done. The flake looks awesome in there. Can't wait to bang bars with you at TF again Jim. Hopefully it will be like last year and wont be a muddy mess :p

GOD DAMMIT! How dare you steal my thunder.

I painted my 851/2 frame with the same damn color and metal flake. I was trying to keep it a secret becouse I was not sure what all else I wanted to do to the trike.

I am starting to notice many of the Tri-Z riders here think WAY too much alike. :wondering

The paint can be bought at any auto or paint store that sells house of color paint, you can also buy it from www.houseofkolor.com The metalflake also is sold by house of color(it aint cheap). The white basecoat and the clearcoat is made by PPG. Most paint comes w/ instructions on the can for mixing reducer and hardener. If not the salesperson can answer your questions. The white is mixed with reducer 2 paint-1 reducer, The pink is the same and the clearcoat only gets hardener mixed with it,4 clearcoat-1 hardener. There's also a ton of other additives you can mix with it,fish eye remover, activator, etc. A paint job is only as good as the painter who is applying it.I've been painting for about 14 yrs,,cars, trucks, helmets, frames, snowmobile hoods, and whatever else I feel needs a new look. Best advice for painting,,be patient. Light coats are better than one heavy coat
At Haspin I dont plan to baby this thing. It will get raced hard on the MX track.I doubt I will do any drag racing with it.

YAMAHA_Jim

....mods,It has a yamaha aftermarket pipe.DG Silencer.Boyesen power reeds.Uni twin-air filter. No motor work done that I know of. Stock suspension(still works OK). 20 inch holeshot tires. I'm not sure what gearing I will use yet.
Right now the painted frame and parts still hang from the ceiling.Tonight I'm working on getting the motor out of the red Tri-Z. I feel like I'm committing Trike murder by ripping the heart out of my prize posession. Oh well,Its only temporary and for a good cause.I'll try to get some pics of the disaster. :TrikesOwn

Jim, If your interested in building an engine I got some Tri-Z motor parts I'll donate.

And yeah, He doesn't need any mods...if anything we need to make a rule where he can only ride a stock machine against all the rest of us...:naughty:

Billy,What parts do you have? I problably wont mess with the motor at all, I doubt I have enough time to put a motor together.
I'm a Trike murderer. It took me about 55 minutes to get the motor out. That includes a smoke break and several trips to the radio to change the station when a chitty song came on :) I didnt have any problems taking any bolts or hoses off,and none of the hoses were dryrotted. I also put the forks back on the pink frame and cleaned a bunch of other parts.Once I get the motor into the new frame, everything else should go together quickly.

I got a cylinder (needs bored, pretty rusty), got a bottomend with the crank and stuff still in it if I remember correctly, but the engine case is all chewed up from around the chain area. And a bag/bucket full of bottom end transmission parts.
