View Full Version : My Bumble Bee - YTMBB 225

Here is how far my 225 has come in the 4 months or longer that I've had it. I'm going for the "Bumble Bee" (killer bee) look thru out the whole machine. Not using the ugly R inner & outer brake covers as there is too much hidden beauty under there and besides, I think they hold dirt in since they are not sealed like a Honda.
I'm having aluminum brakets made by MX 600 for under rear fenders rather then the thin crap Yamaha steel jobs and a bracket for the tension spring on caliper. On the paper is my updated one from the one you see in picture. Decided it will be much stronger using the 3 bolt system. This was my third redesign and am finally satisfied.
The axle (almost like new) is from a 200. It is built heftier then the 225, weighs a lb more and fits right on. $28 including shipping. I thought that was a fantastic deal considering it will now be stronger then stock and it's like new condition.
Still a lot more ideas spinning in my head so i'll keep you updated.
BTW - That is Krylon fusion paint (can be used on metal too). A close match but it's a bit more of a vivid yellow. Once I'm satisfied with the look I'll eventually start having the small parts powder coated . No sense getting a part PC'd only to discover you don't like how it looks.
Getting nervous edog? :D

Some things I refuse to by used though and feel a new headlight cowling will really help the whole front end overall. Mine was just too tweaked, busted and warped to do anything with.

Yea, I'm sure I'll still have quite a few ?s to go yet. Actually have a few now but I'm giving everyone a rest from me for a bit then I'll start rapping them off again. I go in spurts depending on what I'm doing on it. :D
Ahhh, go a head, post it! I'd like to see it and maybe some will give you a few ideas?

Thanks edog........maybe someday (if I ever finish this thing  ) we can get side by side pic's. I think that would make for some cool shots.
I have been on one 2 stroke 3 wheeler in my life and that was a 81 (what ever the 1st year was) 250R that I restored for a freind.
I'd love to have either one - Tri-Z or the R but not an old R like that one. For my riding area though 1st choice would be a 200 or 350X. Had two 200X's and miss them
I'll keep my eyes open for you and if I see something, blast you a PM.
Thank you,You do have the best looking black and yellow bumbble bee to grace the face of this earth.LOL

Thank you all and I have a few more BB parts to paint and just got to thinking HMMMM, I have a full spare set (F&R) of steel wheels. I just wonder :wondering how they would look yellow. That would be my winter time look. With them you'd need a set of oakly sunglasses for sure!
Could do black too but I was never too keen on black wheels with black tires - I'm a contrast kind of dude.
Any suggestions what else you'd paint yellow? Might give me ideas, never know till ya ask!

You could do a yellow and black engine, like what the OCC did for Lance Armstrong's bike. That would look cool.

Your close to my thinking buddy!
I'm going to repaint the head & cylinder the stock black and try a few fin edges with yellow. I have a feeling that will look stunningly brilliant. Get too carried away and it will start to look gawdy I think. A full yellow bottom might look really cool though against the black frame. Tha would be next winter though as I want to get this BB rolling.
Good idea though, Thanks!
Pait your new ignition pad yellow.

Well that you saw in another post already but my plans are to paint the "YAMAHA" on the plastic crankcase cover, the 2 skid plates and the shifter yellow.
Once all together I'll try one fork only, painting between the trips and the lower leg. Put together and see which looks best. That's down the road a ways yet though.

Huffa, how bout some of these here colored tires,
http://www.cycletires.com/atv.htm
Imagine the yellow ones on black rims...

Heck, you could even put yellow 'tire flys'. Now that all together would look interesting...

I forgot about those and yes........ that would be quite interesting. 86 bucks is way too much to pay (for me) for one tire though. Thanks for the heads up on the idea though.
What are tires "flys"?

Are you serious about that?

Tire flys are little lights that go on your valve stem and light up when your moving. Just search for 'tire flys' on ebay and you'll see some.
Any updated pics on the Bumbble Bee project Huffa?

You would have to bring this up  wouldn't you?
I'll be honest here edog, I have not touched it in a looooong time!
I got so far with it, ask all thoise ?'s , then came to a screechin halt with it!
What happened is I got discusted when I went to start the motor finally and it spewed oil out from a bad seal in the crankcase somewhere I guess and put it aside till I decided what I wanted to do with it.
I have another nice 225 that I bought and that needs a bit of work too but that was a very good deal. The 3rd one I have I can't decide if I should pull the motor from that to fix the BB or just fix the BB motor
Maybe once your done moving , well what I'm going to ask I guess I should PM you about? Concerns the motor though.
Anyway, it sits in a barn a few miles away from me right now

It defently looks good. Did you paint the wheels, or is that the factory paint on them? I've got to paint my new front wheel, so it will match my rears.

I think I painted the 2 rears, this was so long ago I can't remember for sure though?
I painted them on my SX too, the paint holds up excellent! It is gold WHEEL paint. What makes it WHEEL paint, I don't know?
