........cut the large hole in the bottom bracket? I thought a jig saw but don't think that will follow the arc of the circle or would it?

Got to be something else out there?

hole saw would work, but use it before you cut the other parts out....

Good question, how thick is it going to be?

band saw might be a good choice.. but you need the right blade !!

Well I don't know exactly because MX 600 (3WW member) is making it for me. It will be aluminum and a guess would be a 1/4".

Excuse my ignorance but what's a hole saw? Sort of self explanatory but what's it look like?

Guess I'll have to do a bit of web searching.

Yep.... that would be the first choice!!!! I know Huffa is a few years older, but you think that pics big enough??? :D

Swinehart.... what did we use to do the small cuts on my 350X speedo/tach dash plate? The sawzall clamped in the vice like a jig-saw??? It was a fun little tool though! :naughty:

so what is that part going to be used for huffa ???

i have found that working with 1/4 to 3/8 alu a 18 tooth saw blade and a wood rasp the better choices. i have a small selection of saws and drill bits and rasp that normally get me thru most of my little projects i tinker with.
in the pic below is 5/16ths alu that 350xINny and i was working with in doing up his speedo/tach mounting dashboard. that was just one of the options we come up with.

it might be better to go down to a hardware and ask to look at holesaws ,,, kinda tricky to describe ,,, for me anyway.

Oh, I used them before for door knob holes. I was unaware they made them for metal but I guess why wouldn't they

Thank you for the picture :beer

Hey nice job on the fab work. Looks great! :beer You and 350X I will keep in mind if I ever get stuck on a fab job! It's always nice when someone says "Hey, where did you get that?" and you come back with "I made it myself".

The bracket is for the rear brake spring on a 225 caliper. Here is a picture of the 2nd design which was then advanced to the 3rd design on this post.

Ahh heck, only took 3 minutes to give you a better shot. I will then just simply drill a hole thru for bolt & nut for spring to attach. I'd rather wait and install it to get precise location of that hole though.

while we are on the subject of making things up yourself, I painted and drew the 3rd picture my self and for sure I have no artistic ability what so ever so I'm qiuite proud of that. Some guy asked "where di you get that cool xtra large sticker and my reply was well you know, as I mentioned above.

Thats funnnny :D

Geeez, sorry guys but this bracket leads to my next question already

Now that I have an extra bracket the threaded caliper studs won't be long enough

Yes, I could use bolts but naaah, I'd rather take the time to find threaded studs and am sure cycle shops can order them but they only have part #'s.

Does like home depot or something sell metric studs?

Also, will they be easy to get out? Vise grips maybe?

Do you have the Yamaha Official Shop Manual? It has an awesome list of all the bolt sizes and torque values. I bet if I had it here with me at the University, I'd be able to look it up and add 5 or 10mm to the length for ya! :naughty:

I think I remember seeing them on TV now that you mention it. They show them outdoing a jig saw by a huge margin and ripping around corners doing drywall outlets and stuff.

That 350X guy is a real comidien sometimes, ya know it.

Funny thing is I just started wearing glasses at 49. Not too shabby I guess.

Actually I have to go pick them up yet!

That thing looks like one of the BIG MACHINES on Modern Marvels! :D

........and no I never saw one but sure seems like a good canidate for the job.

MX 600 is doing it though and it  better not be buctered up or he'll get back an ill looking 200S!

Hey Chris, do you have like a 3 week avatar limit or something? I think you win the # of changed avatars in a year award :D ......and i know in 3, 4 weeks you'll change it again due to the item your getting. I won't spill the beans, I'll let you do that when apropiate. :beer

Don't worry, it'll come out looking great. I've got a few options here to cut that hole. I've actually got a huge punch machine that might do it for me, without much work. Have to see how thick it can punch through and what thickness aluminum I've got that would be strong enough for that size bracket. I'll have it done by the end of the week and post some pictures.

Hey, thanks MX 600 :beer If it looks good I got another idea that you could fab up.

I'll do a post on it though and get opinions. Quite simple and will improve the looks of the part.
