Here is a pic of the kit as it came from Pro-Tec. As you can see, it consists of a cast Aluminium swingarm, a Bilstien shock, a bracket that goes under the rear seat on the frame by the grab bar to hold the top of the shock, and a brake caliper relocation bracket. I have an ad on my hard-drive somewhere for it from 1982. As I recall, the kit retailed for $325 back then, so figure a YT175 was $800 new ($2000 today) and then this kit was another $325 ($700 today) so now you see why they are pretty rare! for $1700 you could get a new ATC 250R!

Nice Holic! If you can't find the scans, I can rescan them for you. I have a mag or two with YT175 Mods, and I know the one uses that same kit for sure and had the ad right in the same section!

would the pro-tec kits work on a 125? I don't have either, but I'm still curious.

the bearings are just standard size, I got the old ones out, saved one to match up at work tomorrow. I have to make a new swingarm bolt and bushing for both kits still. The kit will work on the 125 and 175, and Im pretty sure the 200 hardtails too, not positive about the 200, but 95% anyway. Huffa, there is a pic of it installed on my 175 under "got a rare part in the mail today" post. This is a second kit I just found.

I have one pro tec kit installed on my YT 175
I have one Pro tec kit laying on the bench in my garage
That makes 2 kits, one is being used on my 175 and one just "is". but it depends on what the meaning of "is" is.
Get it?
I also picked up a NOS +6 Durablue axle for the YT 175 from an old pal of mine. Im hoping Blaster hubs fit the splines so I can run some nice Douglas wheels on it.
Can you post pics on your 175 ytm?

well fox, from what I have seen, the rear ends are VERY similar, if not the same. I mean, both hard tail, both with rear mounted engines, both share the carrier, axle hubs, etc..... Why woudl it NOT work on a 200?? Even if it did not "fit" Im sure it could be mounted and spaced properly to make it work as well as it does on the "correct" machine, you know?

Look what you did; now I may have to tare apart my 200 even though it is just about done. Maybe the 200x project completion date will be pushed back again :( . Now that I think of it my brother has his YT125 are my parent’s house so when I get back from college I will have to compare them. Not that it makes much of a difference since the chances of me finding the swinger kit are slim but at least it would give me something to model it from. Are there any quads that use similar rear ends? I would rather not have to replace the rear end if I could get away with it. I would probably cut down a quad one so the rear end doesn't stick way out too.

I guess if you used the same basic dimensions and were a savvy fabricator, you could make a swingarm for anything.

That’s the thing, I don't want to make the swinger, the other parts may be doable put I am hoping to be able to modify an existing swinger to fit. I will just have to find a cheap one that won’t matter if it ends up getting junked.

Depends which race you’re planning to enter.
That trike was built for the human race and not much else.
