Hi I have just joined this forum and need some advice. I live in South Wales in the UK and I own a 1986 atc250r I have had it since 86 when it was bought for me by my dad, it was an awesome trike as it was race tuned with an aftermarket silencer, boyessen reeds and strengthened swingarm ,however it has been stored @ my uncles farm for about 10yrs , I am now in a position where I can fix it up any ideas where 2 start?? also will 20-11-9 tires fit my stock rims? I have the original Ohtsu 20-10-09 @ the moment but are cracked thru age .Any help greatly appreciated Cheers!!!

Hey bra, welcome to the forum. And dont say "was" cuz its still a bad to the bone trike. Those tires will work fine on the stock rims. I would change all the fluids out of the bike and put all new oil in it. Change out the spark plug and make sure no rodents(rats) have made a nest in your air box or in the pipe. Kick that baby over and enjoy a nice ride.......peace mate

I live in South Wales, NY. Go figure.
If there was gas left in the tank, your going to nee to get the darb cleaned out and will have to flush the tank as well. Do you have an aftermarket swingarm or did someone just reinforce the stock one? Good luck

Rather than accuse staceyl200 of anything I say welcome to the board!!! :)
If it is ATCPhil, why would he mention coming from wales?
Last time I checked not everyone from wales is a crook!!! ;)
Anyway I think the moderators can tell if it is ATCphil by his IP address or something?????

I checked it earlier and its not the same as what phil was using.
Sorry Stacey, everyone is just a bit jumpy with new users from the UK since we had some run ins with a dude named Phil Shortman that took many members here on the forum for several hundred dollars.

Last time I let my 85R sit for three years in storage... when it came out & after I changed ALL fluids, cept for suspension, it ran but had a few "air leaks" in the engine side seals. So if it starts reving uncontrolably, ya may need to check them seals. Then again its HOT & DRY here, nearly all the time. Hopefully your climate was more forgiving.

Just been reading the posts and I,ve got to say that I am definately not this phil shortman dude he sounds like a complete muppet!! I have just spent a good few hours draining the fluids etc and stripping my 250r down I have decided to go the whole hog!! I have ordered 2 new rear tyres or tires as you call them and a new rear rotor as mine was bent up and below the min thickness I have taken sum photos I will upload them when I got spare 5 mins Thanks Fellas

You might find that the fork seals will start leaking after you ride it a bit. You might need to rebuld the forks, and possibly the brake calipers as well. I would suggest flushing the brake fluid, something many folks overlook. Welcome to the board!

Yeah the fork seals are perished I,m just going to go thru everything I took the cylinder head off last nite and the dished area around the spark plug has got a few dings in it and the top of the piston but there is no scoring on the bore! In reply to a question cliff2302 asked yesterday with regards to the swingarm it has 2 plates welded at the rear where the bearing carrier sits, its a nice job I,ll get sum photos up 2day
