225 schroud - fender oddity

Well the 1st thing I noticed is a 83 schroud does not have this clip like the 84 in this picture nor does it have the mold to except it. I know, it's a small stupid detail that's not even worth posting about BUT what got my curiosity (again) is why are the slots in the fender section where the schrouds meet it? They serve no purpose what so ever but COULD HAVE!

Seems like Yamaha intended to put tabs on the schrouds that would simply plug and lock into place thru the fender slots but never did. It would of worked perfect!


Wonder why they didn't carry thru on the idea? I mean it does hold well in place it seems without it but it sure seems to me that's what their intentions were.

Honda would have done that! :D

Working on these edog I have found it is true that Honda pays closer attention to detail.

I noticed that Honda also has a mold inpregnated into the rear fender to accept the mud flaps and sure that cost quite a bit more to do. Honda flaps goes on top and bolts down on the fender into the mold.

Yamaha puts flaps underneath and just uses brackets to brace it somewhat.

I do like that the tanks are plastic on the Yamahas though. No rust, no dents, no painting, no replacing.
