I have some severe cam chain slap/drag, the book I have says to look for an adjuster under the gear shifter, well there is no adjuster under there, just a bolt? WTF, have I been robbed?? lol Then there is a so called second step where you go under the lil bugger and take out a bolt there, no adjustment under there that I can see, just a spring. It runs great, I just fear what the inside of the cases might look like after awhile with it dragging on the bottom like that. Any and all help is appreciated, pics are a boneass.

the chain adjuster is under the chain gaurd. if you stand it up on its rear and look underneath, between the "frame rails" you should see the 2 bolts. loosen them and one hole is slotted, raise it and check the slack in the chain by pulling the rubber plug on the chain gaurd. i hope i linked this right (http://www.powersportspro.com/partsfish/displayfiche.asp) You shouldnt have to remove the chain gaurd to do this. if this link doesnt work, i will try to get pics
oops, go to that link, and look for" left crankcase cover chain case" its part# 5

Hey Dave, thanks for letting me know how to adjust my drive chain, I already have that pretty much covered, it's the cam chain adjustment I'm looking for, thanks again.

Yes I know of that, I had it apart and the spring out, but where is the adjustment?? Do I need to go up in and remove the rod? Is the adjustment at the other end? Strech the spring? The book I have speaks of 2 adjustments, and that is the second one I am suppose to perform, after the one by the gear shifter? Thanks....

Roosty which set up do you have based on this image? The right or left one? Looking at numbers 6 through 21. Do you see number 26 and 25? Those 2 release the spring or rod, I cannot remember which one. I need to find my manual to freshen up on this, But this will get the other folks on the right track. The one on the right is fairly easy but by the sounds you dont have that one. See number 12? that is the tightener. You screw that after you release 25. But Doesnt matter lol The left one I believe is the simple release 26 and the spring tightens and you rescrew into another hole. See the differences between 9 and 10? 9 has the holes. Your gonna rescrew 26 back into the rod after you pushed it up. Like I said been forever since I have done this, so someone come in behind me please.

What year 70 is it - I think the '85's and up had an "Automatic" cam chain adjuster. All you have to do is loosen the adjuster nut (the angled one under the pull start) and it will adjust itself. Then tighten it back up.

Jenn, I have the set up on the left, and between you and Wicked, I think I have alot more to work with than I had origionally, it is an 85 model. I printed that schematic off of Partsfish yesterday, but had no chance to look over it last night, tonight I will have a couple hours before the kid gets home and wants to ride again, she is a very impatient 7 year old!! I thank you all, and will let you know what I find, it is starting to make sense now!!

Roosty, it should be very simple then, just release #26 and let the spring push that rod (#9) up for you.
