First off I would like to say that I am a Collector/Restorer of the Honda ATC line and I have seen some stuff on machines that have just made me shake my head.By that I mean:example /I picked up this '83 200 X the other day,Well the thumb throttle had broken at the tip so the throttle was taped up with duct tape and was as long as the grip! That was inventive,Today that is a aftermarket pruduct,Who would have knew!Another time I bought a US 90 from the original owner and he had made a conversion hub for the then new style 2-piece wheels. He said they did'nt offer that at the time and he was sick of fixing the Baloon tire's, so he made his own adapter! Now it's aftermarket! The thing I think would be funny, is to have you guy's tell about things that have made you shake your head and say,WHY! or WOW!We almost all have a machine we got out of a farmers barn or the gems that we got stashed in the back of some middle aged fella's garage!!The humor in it all is that some of these so called 'Inventions " actually end up on an assembly line!Let's hear your ,I can't believe it ,or that is weird story! I think it would be entertaining!

Ill tell you about my one SX engine. We were tearing it apart and we were trying to take the cintrifical clutch off. Well My dad kinda put to much force on the breaker bar and stripped the nut. So what did we do? WE WELDED IT! lol. We never got the side cover back on so I may never know if it worked.

The ATC200S I just bought had a brake handle extension welded on to it - a 5", 3/8 aluminum socket extender. I too have been restoring these contraptions for many years and most of the idiotic jimmy fixes were due to lack of care or maintenance. My favorite one of these was the "JB welded" up weap hole for the water pump on my '90 LT-R, I discovered after buying it (the damn thing just wouldn't stop leaking!) - and the guy wondered why the clutch was slipping. I will say this - I have seen quite a few doozies that were supposed to be rear grab-rails - an example would be the .50 cal ammo can welded onto my ALT125D. Another one you see alot is the propensity for people, for some unknown reason, not being able to find the right bolt for this or that and they end up using one that is 3 times too long, so they have to use washers and nuts to take up the space. I've encountered that so many times that I will never, ever need to go looking for washers again. I have used a few tricks of my own. My favorite one is when I went to mount up the Pro-Circuit T4 exhaust onto my '91 250X, they included the wrong inboard bolt spacer with the kit. So, I used a 3/4 socket in its place and it worked flawlessly (you couldnt see it so it dosent count as a "rig" ... he he).

You have to see this machine in person to understand ( The picture don't do this machine justice ).
hole in gas tank = Repaired with a bolt, washer, and part of a inner tube. It's held for 6+ years
Front tire held on by the inner tube ( look at the picture ). It was rode like that for 6-8 months.
Cam sprocket on the rear axle for a washer.
oil drain plug stipped out. Repaired with a bolt, nut, washer, and piece of rubber hose ( made a expandable plug ).
A lot more jerry rigged things also. Actually too many to list.
A saying from the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles comes to mind: "It might not be pretty to look at, but it gets you were your going."
Plans are to have it at TF05.
