I gave $50 for 1 that needed a piston and $125 for another one. The $125 one has new piston and rings in it. It used to run good, then started idling real fast, have to shut it down. I've changed the jug and head gaskets, tried a different carb and still does it. I noticed when i took the cap off where you put the oil for the tranny in was full of gas. Not sure how so much gas is getting in there, or any gas for that matter. Drained it ran it for a little while and it filled up again. I sprayed wd 40 around the head and jug and doesnt seem to affect the idle so i dont believe there is a leak there. I've tried a different set of reeds and still didnt help, although neither set seems to seal right.

A clean Carb is a Happy Carb- Sounds like you picked some junk up into the pilot jet.

Congratulations, your thread is hi-jacked. Anyway:
Pics, and many other specific things all can give us a better idea. Brakes, chain/sprocket wear, engine compression, the condition of the plastics, seat, tires, rims, etc. Do the lights work? Does it shift/ accellerate/ stop well?
Kinda hard to give you a figure from your description.

I tried 2 different carbs. Could i have had crap in my tank and it messed up both of them? Would a crank case leak do this? It doesnt do it all the time, it will idle fine for a minute or 2 then go crazy.

Go Back a page - Maybe 3 or 4 days ago-- A post by me - "UH-OH" and tell me if that sounds like what you have.

holmstrong...put a new spark plug...it should stop that fast idle

Sounds like what i have, except his doesnt say anything about his crank case filling with gas. I have also tried a different sparkplug.

with a plugged pilot- you draw gas directly thru the main- under full vacuum-Im not saying you cant have a crankcase leak--but try eliminating the "Stupid" before the "Sublime"

I would say 300 tops, without brocken fenders, runs good, good tires, everything works... Maybey on ebay you could get 5 or 6 hundred.

Could reed valves cause this? Would that make it flood so badly and rev out of control?
Unclediezel
11-18-2005, 06:22 PM
Possible ---yes--Likely --no
Does this by chance dump gas onto the ground while its running?
holmstrom
11-18-2005, 06:31 PM
no, just into the transmission.

Ok, heres what happened today. It was out of gas, so i got some mixed it up and put it in. Sprayed some starting fluid in it and it starts up and idles fine. Doesnt seem to be any gas in the crankcase and seems to run fine.

Touchdown----Pull the petcock out of the tank and clean the screens out--

Sorry about the abridged response----It s been a long Night---
Anyway---It sounds like you may have mixed too much oil - and picked up a load off the bottom of the tank- That can lean out your fuel- (Less "Burnable" Fuel charge)- Did you block off Injector?--Dont waste a tank of fuel--Wait till it drops a bit---Clean the petcock screens -(Primary and reserve)- Clean Carb again -And you should be ok.

Theres a guy on another message board that swears its my crank seals.
Unclediezel
11-20-2005, 02:17 PM
Its possible---But--
Seals would have to be BLOWN-OUT-To do that----And it would NEVER run right.---
Try Something- Grab a Buddy who smokes- and a piece of duct tape--Take out your spark plug and the Oil fill cap. Get a piece of rubber hose -in the spark plug hole -seal it with the tape-and blow smoke in the tube----where it comes out is where it leaks.---If your crank seals were to leak--your spark plug would be soaked in engine oil--and it would barely run---much less race away.
holmstrom
11-20-2005, 08:24 PM
Sparkplug is not soaked in oil, its sooty. Sure smokes alot though.
holmstrom

I appreciate your help!
Unclediezel
11-20-2005, 08:36 PM
no prob----
Smoke is probably too much oil--(2Stroke)
Your stuck in that 4 -stroke thing-There is NO oil in your Crankcase- Your crank is lubed by 2 stroke oil suspended in your fuel- Trans is lubed by "Splash" of engine oil.
holmstrom
11-20-2005, 09:22 PM
Then why is there a black cap on the clutch cover to add oil and a bolt below that you take out to check oil? Should i not put oil in there?
Unclediezel
11-21-2005, 09:46 PM
Yes --thats for the Transmission- You MUST fill that with oil for Clutch operation and lubrication --Your Crankshaft is Isolated from this area by Crank seals-.

I gave this to my wife when she asked where my PUSHROD THINGYS were---.It helped --give it a try.

Remember -Suck , Squeeze, Bang,And Blow? Squeeze and bang are above the piston, Suck and squeeze are below.

I started it up tonight and forgot i had the gas turned off, just before it ran out it raced away and stalled when it ran out. I turned the gas back on and started it, seems to run fine again.

I saw in another post---You were mixing 8oz to a gallon? You definitely have too much oil. I know I asked already , but is your Injector blocked off?Im glad Im not the only one whos trike screams away When the gas is EMPTY!!!
holmstrom
11-21-2005, 10:05 PM
Yeah, i guess i wasnt paying attention when i mixed that gas. Wondered why i was going through alot of oil. Yeah the injectors are blocked off. Now that im learning a bit more about 2 strokes, im guessing there was alot of oil sitting at the bottom of my tank from the previous owner.

Expect to clean carby at least once more, Those pilot Jets are TINY, and very unforgiving.

I'm pretty excited. Took the turf tires off tonight and put real tires on it off the other one. Maybe i'll actually get to ride it tomorrow.

So i take it out, starts fine, idles fair put it in gear and try to take off and it dies. Starts right up, put it in gear same thing. Finally after letting it idle for alittle bit and it goes if i feather the throttle until i shift to second gear and it falls flat.
Unclediezel
11-22-2005, 07:22 PM
Clean the carb - pay special attention to pilot holes.
holmstrom
11-22-2005, 07:26 PM
It seems to idle fine, just wont do crap but stall when i put it in gear. Aftyer awhile of trying i got it to run in second then when i shifted to 3rd it would die. Tried to run away once too.

11-22-2005, 07:31 PM
Sounds like fuel mix is way too lean- Shut off the fuel -let it die-Restart it and see if its any better.
Unclediezel
11-22-2005, 07:32 PM
Also- Try pulling the choke and see if that changes anything---Better or worse-it doesnt matter - Just has to be different

I put a different plug in it just now, old one looked pretty worn. Seems to run alot better. Idling anyways, i live in town so i couldnt really test drive it, but it ran good up and down the sidewalk.
Unclediezel
11-22-2005, 08:06 PM
Sounds harsh---But make time to take it out and Kick the S**T out of it.Two strokes will almost always foul out if you let them Idle----It will also give you a chance to burn up some of that Dog-dirt gas .Even if you take it out in the yard and prop the back up on blocks, Give it some "REV" time.

11-22-2005, 08:10 PM
I dont know about dog dirt gas, i jst got it at marathon.

Did you dump the "Over-Oiled" stuff you had in it?
holmstrom
11-22-2005, 09:00 PM
yeah. I just did some fiddling with the carb, found a hose on the carb that wasnt plugged off and it does wheelies now. Never ran good enough to do those before!!!

I'm not sure, i bought it at an auction. It idles smotth now AND has more power. Hopefully will run good tomorrow.

When you get a second -Check it out, You will understand why I have the patience not to kick, punch , or otherwise endanger the life of a trike, no matter how bad it runs, and why I have so much respect for the members of this board. that was my first post, and I have absolutely no regrets about being a 3WW member.
