alright in my search for a new trike, i want to get a trike thats fast on dirt roads and fields, dont care about trailing qualities, i want to know which is going to perform better the 85-85 200x or the 250sx, im talkin sliding and keeping up with my sport riding quad buddies. is the 250sx going to take off as good and go as fast as the 200x??? i dont want a two stroke so that rules out the insanely quick 250r. 350X is out of my price range unless i get real lucky.

200x all the way. The SX is nice but it's heart will always be a utility one.

yeah, thats what i though, how much smaller is the 200x??? it will go faster than the 250sx (not to sound like a speed demon or anything :D)

Oh heck yea it will. I have an 83 and I smoked my cousin's 250sx in his field. And all I have is a DG pipe and UNI filter.
I drive down the road all the time on my 200x, but I don't like how fast it tops out.

how come two stroke is out of the question? Out of the two that you listed for the type of riding you mentioned i would say the 200x. Because it is a straight up sports trike while the sx is a sport/utility on more of the utility side with a very low first gear and an auto clutch (great for trail riding though). Im sure if you look hard enough you can find a 350x in your price range. You should reconsider the two strokes 250r's nothings better for fast field riding and sliding around.

200x is faster than the Sx, it handles better, etc etc. I will be honest with what I think, For the type of riding you are talking about, (and yes I know you said you dont want a 2 stroke) I think an 84 or 85 Tecate will suit you perfectly.

lol id love to have a two stroke, they are easy maintenance, but its a little too fast for me and i get reckless. id HAVE to top it out.. and i dont really like the fact of having to rebuild them every few years. i like the maintenance on four strokes alot better. If i could find a semi cheap 350x (i dont mind the restore process) id have it. anyone know what the 200x, 350x, 250sx, and 250r top out at, at stock or close to stock, 1985-1987..

200x tops out around 60

250sx around 52

250r, ummm... I can't count that high. lol

350x, low 70's according to Swineharts 350x, which has a speedo.

Man you guys really hurt the spirt of an SX. The SX is awesome on dirt roads and paved for that matter. Had mine out today flying down some. And if you ride on pavement (just did this today for the first time. I was very proud of myself) you can powerslide the sx so easy that its almost unblievable. (To clarify I was proud I got my SX to powerslide on pavement, kinda hard not to powerslide on dirt roads :naughty:

BUT if you want to go a couple miles an hour faster then yes go with the X

hmmm 70 would scare me ****less, i think ill go for the 200x..Hey! .... no sidestepping the word filter please!!!!.

The ultimate trike for what you described would be the YTZ350R from my "1988 what if?" article. However, you are sounding a little "Sally" with your comments to me so I would recomend nothing larger than an ATC110, so you don't crap your pants. ;)

you must be running like 18"s on the back of that thing because theres no way your going to get a stock sx to power slide on a paved road enless its icy out.

I'd get an 86 or 7 instead of an 83-5 which I think you meant. They are thought out a WHOLE lot better. They usually go for a few 100 more if both years(83-5 & 86- 7) are comparible shape wise.

86 and 7's are 6 speeds. I don't :wondering think the 3 thru 5's are.

Ditto on that one, I have a hard enough powersliding the SX in the dirt at a decent speed. Well the Tecate on the other hand is a different story.

lol thanks wickedfinger, sorry about the filter.. i like the SX because its bigger and if i did end up on trails it would be nice.. depends on what i find first, i really like the looks of the 86-87 200x's.. ill have both the 200x and 250sx someday, just startin to build my collection.

You dont think so huh? Try it one day. Put some 2 ply knobbies on back go down the road in third gear and throw your rear. You'll hear the tires sliding. They dont slide far but they do slide. 22x11x8s baby!

If you still dont believe me I'll bring this magical SX to trikefest. Aw what the hell Ill bring it anyway. :w00t:

dude sounds like you dont got the chonies to ride a 2 stroke, i dont care if the twostroke is faster or i would hurt myself on anything faster bla blah blah, i dont mean to sound harsh, but the trike is only as dangerous as the rider, bro you can ride anything with the right mind set and respect for the vehicle, on the air-cooled R i have the guy told us he got 4 years out of a top end and he rode it at least once a week, he mixed 32:1 AND NEVER LOOK BACK, if you ride them good and respect them you can get some good ride time out of them. And to answer your baised 4 stroke thing about better life and stuff, well yes they do run very well for a along time but depending on how a fourstroke goes out it can be very costly, freind of mine accidently ran his 350X out of oil and O BOY i think it was like 1K to get it back running right. I say 2 stroke if you dont want to get smoked by sport quads, and open areas and fields O BOY 2 stroke heaven, if you dont think you can handle a water pumper R then get yourself a air-cooled R, they make great torque and power, and are by far the easist to work on two-strokes.

i would ride anything, its just what i prefer to ride.. i tried out my friends 89 cr125 and that thing ripped, my friends ltz400 really moves. i just dont like how 2 strokes perform for if i do end up using it in trails, i could ride anything you threw at me, i just gotta get broke into it. i wouldnt turn down an r if i could find a cheap one.. i almost bought my friends trx250R a couple years ago. if i could find an R for cheap id have it. same thing goes for the 350X.

What you are feeling is most likely the tire roll. The tall sidewall's and the fact that they are 2 ply. The SX has no where near the power required to do a true powerslide on asphalt

it's even hard to spin the tires in dirt on a 250sx (unless there bald. lol) Due to the fact of the low gearing.

Hmm... why did the tires squeel then? Anyway I didnt mean That I out it sideways on the road. I only slid about 2 foot.
