what have yall used to polish your cases, the cases arent painted but i really do not want to go experimenting and screw these up. how much work is involved? Also if i go the painting route what would be the best way to paint them?

polishing cases is hard work, i tred doing a semi polished look, i wasnt going for show polish. It was alot of work to get there, but i am happy with my results. there is some guy on here that offered to show polish all my cases for like 120 or something. i dunno you may think about that route, im not sure about painting

i polished up a cupple pieces for my autox, rewind, cdi cover, and chain gaurd, and i used sand paper , started with 220 then i gradually worked my way to 3,000 grit, and they turned out beutious.

It sucks.... bad. I helped my polisher do mine, but we also matched the cases and did more of a show shine. Took a lot of time, even with machines doing most of the work.

Dammit!

Took me about 3 hours to do my stator cover by hand (click the link in my sig) and it's not even a show shine. After I did that I found a place that has them for fifty bucks on exchange and they look a hundred times better.

There was a guy on here not to long ago that was advertising. Valleypolisher or something like that. Haven't heard from him in a while though. I think it is worth the effort to polish cause it don't stay polished very long unless you keep up with it. But the type of riding in my area it would be a lost cause.

I take all my metal stuff that needs to be polished to our bench grinder. It has a grinder on one side and a polisher type thing on the other. Turn it on and have at it. Made all my metal shine didnt take long either maybe 5-10 minutes.

strip the paint all of the cases. then fine sand them to get the big dings out. then use a bench grinder with a polishing wheel. use the gray compound its courser and works faster. then polish away. make sure to where a face sheild and some old clothes because its a dirty job.

I polished my covers using 220 then 400 then 800 grit, then used a dremel with a polishing wheel and some mothers polish they turned out great as for painting them if they are already stripped i would just polish them or go to Auto zone and buy a nice 7 dollar can of engine paint

well i asked a guy at work and he got me this polishing disc ( goes on the end of a drill) and some compound. it took me like 3 minutes to do a cover. turned out nicely but after i was done the compund left a couple of black smears that were heck to get off. i think i might try some diffrent compound.

i'm in the process of polishing mine right now. i'm about four or five hours in and it is about 3/4 of the way done. if i had the money i would pay someone to do it. i'm sure it would be alot easier if i had the proper equipment but all i have is sandpaper and i'm running out. how do you get a show shine?

if you get a polishing wheel for a bench grinder and some compound thats how you get a show shine. it would be easy know that you have it all sanded.

its easier with a polishing wheel on a bench grinder than with a drill. the drill just smears the compound on the aluminum. it doesn't spin fast enough.

well i have about an hour in mine and it looks pretty good. i used the 3m stripper wheel on my die grinder to smooth everything out then i used a polishing wheel ( similiar to the one i got from work but for the die grinder) that i got from the local paint store. it isnt a show shine but it is definatley very nice. i also used a real fine polishing wheel on a chrome fender that was pitted and rusted. it also turned out pretty good. the only hard areas i had on the engine is around cooling fans. i used a dremel and it worked alright., just slow.
