I remember the magazine test issues from back in the day stating that the Tecate made 41 hp. 41 isn't quite as high as the 43 that you guys are claiming, but it's not too shabby either.

Yeah there is no way a stock Tecate would dyno anywhere close to 40 at the wheels. All depends on the dyno too. Dyno's aren't really good for comparing horse power numbers from dyno to dyno but more for showing a gain in mods if you use the same dyno, if that makes sense. I have a dyno graph of a stock 450R and a stock YFZ and they both put over 40 to the wheels. That's with the 450R drawing air in threw a hole the size of a quarter and a 118 main jet.

Yea, i just got the HP figure fron a brochure i read on the trikeheaven site, im sure you guys are right about the differences. 43 does sounds like alot, but it sure feels around there when you crack the throttle :naughty:

Not too many, just like 1 or 2. lol. I've never seen an 86 Tecate. I guess I was basing that statement off other numbers I've seen, which I know isn't correct or a smart thing to do. I was comparing it to new 2 stroke motocrossers. But you have to admit after 20 years the 2 strokes are going to put out more power than they did.
So were all the Tecate 4's power valved? Legitimate question. How come the Tecate 4 wasn't very popular compared to a TRX250R. Sounds like a Tecate 4 would have been the machine to get. Did it not handle very well?
Dammit!

How about hp numbers for the '84-85 T3's? Anyone know?

I don't think the T4s handled very well and i think people shyed away because of the flywheel and magneto problems. I'd like to get one some day, i think they are the best looking quad made.
The 84-5s didn't make as much power, but i dont think it was too far behind
Tecate-4 is powervalved. And it's counterbalanced. The problem everyone had with them was they were to narrow compared to the 250R and QuadRacer. But like the 3-wheelers before them, they had the most motor in their class.

If a T-4 wasn't the greatest on the MX track maybe it would fit in better with a Banshee? Not the greatest handling but straight line power?
