After many years of wanting and searching I finally found me a 350X. Its a 1985 model, with White Maier Plastics, Aftermarket seat cover, new fork boots, White maier front Disc brake gaurd and rear red maier disc brake gaurd. What I am wondering are some of the things that i should look for/check. Is there anything that is prone to fail, or something that I might need to give imidiate attention to?

That 350x would be bada$$ with a OEM seat. But that one looks good.

As for your question.. What I have learned is, check the frame, man that thing cracks everywhere. Also the rear bearings, if it has ever been rode to long with shot bearings, then it will ruin the axle and other rear end parts... Check the bracket on the underside of the tank (on the right - from sitting on bike). Invest in a headlight guard, mine has allready saved my headlight many times. A guard is like 40 bucks, a good headlight is like 100 bucks.

Where can I find a headlight gaurd? check around on EBay? Thanks for the info, I rode it to work today so I am going to go out into the parking lot and start checking it over.

Rode it to work ?

Lucky B@$tard...... i wish i could do that. It would be there a whole 20 minutes befor someone steals it.

Nice X..... how's the motor sound ?

well I live 300 hundred feet from work, and the store is family owned so there is little worry here. Motor sounds good, a little exhaust leak where the header meets the muffler but that it. I have got to find the "Cold Engine starting procedure" though. I already have a bad knee from a dirt bike accident, this 350 isnt making things easier.

Headlight guards are usually on ebay. I see them often. Or else i'm sure someone has one on here.

As for starting cold.. What I do is put it on full choke, hold it wide open and kick, usually starts on the first kick.

Both of my 350X's I just go half (first click) up and give it a kick or 2. In the winter, I use to put a ceramic heater on the motor block/jug but then I bought a can of starting fluid with the cylinder lube in it and just give it a quick shot of that and a kick!

My 350x, winter or summer full choke and no throttle. maybe 1 kick more in the winter.

Looks good, Good luck with it.

Nice find. Very nice find.

For an HL guard, I would reccomend a Hondaline one with grill (if you can find one). I paid 100 for mine, but it was worth it. BTW: did anyone else see that Hondaline HL guard, red w/out grill, go for $117 on eBay?

Thanks, I havent stopped drooling on it myself yet, I think that will take a couple more days.

just out of curiousity, what did you give for it?

Cracks in the frame usually occur on the left side near the rear engine mount.

A headlight guard is a must. Mine has saved my headlight assembly.

I had to give a fair share for it, $1650 to be exact. But it was worth it to me. I have wanted one for so long and there so hard to find, that it was worth jumong all over for.

Hmmm, getting to be more and more local people on here all the time. :beer

Yep, Decatur is right up the road. Congrats! It was so close but was too much for me anyway. I figure you'd say you got it for $250 or so! ;)

There ought to be trikes rotting away all over the Decatur, Weatherford, Boyd, Rhome area since they raced ATVs at Boyd Raceway and it was a stop on the national circuit back in the day.

you'd think, I have yet to find any trikes in the area, everything I have has been bought out of state

Yeah, the choice messed me all up, in the end, I just liked the white a little better. Hey, I was wondering, has it been serviced out recently? I was going to do it this week but it was recently done then it would be a waste of oil/filter if I did.
If you still have that R in a couple months and are planning on getting shut of it, let me know cause I have already put it down as a potential backburner trike. :naughty:

CINCH

No, it has not been serviced by me. the guy I got it from said it was right before I got it, although it did not appear to have had the oil changed, so who knows??

if it was me, I would go ahead a do it, just to be on the safe side

im still debating about the 84R, im sure i'll still have it, give me a hollar

back to the 350X, where would you get the oil filter for it???

Lomax

I had 75 of them last time I counted (bought 5 20 count cases) so I have plenty of them. They fit various honda machines so thats why i have so many.

I like that gaurd on yours, has your frame been weled or broke behind the headlight??

The stock stopper broke, and this caused the forks to damaged the tank (this did not happen when I had it just for the record). Before restoring the tank, I was like "Well, I'm not going to restore it if it's just going to be damaged again!"

To make a long story short, it's just a weld on the stopper to keep the forks from hitting the tank. I will probably have the frame powdercoated this winter so it looks better.

I picked that guard up NOS off eBay, friggin nice it is.

back to the 350X, where would you get the oil filter for it???

I get mine from Advance Auto...although almost any auto parts store should have them sitting on the shelves. I do know that the 350X uses the same oil filter as an SX, Foreman, midsize honda dirtbikes, and quite a few other machines

hmm i would have picked the black machine, i like that one... but at this point ANY 350x would look beautiful to me

Sweet 350X! Kinda looks like mine. I'd better go check in the barn and see if its still there. LOL :p Here is a pic of mine with a + 4 Cal Fab swingarm. I like the way they look stock the best, but a few years ago I had a 465 big bore/ stroker motor in mine so I needed the x-tra length.

Lomax

They do look alot alike. I was wondering what it would look like with red boots instead of blue, kinda just make it red/white instead of the RWB scheme.
