I tried searching for info but didnt seem to find what I was looking for. I saw some good info on wetsanding the plastic and buffing, but I am too lazy to do that right now. Im looking for an easier way

My tank on the 250R looks exactly like this one:

Does anyone know of a good product to take this "white stuff" off without dulling the plastic any worse then it is?

Thanks

Try some elbow grease :D ... from the looks of it, the wetsanding technique would be hard to beat.

I've used PC-1's plastic renew acouple of times for restoring headlight shells and they came out great ... but ... I could never see using it to restore a whole fender - it would take way too long if you follow their directions.

Use some steel wool it will take a little elbow grease, but shouldn't take more than a hour or 2 to finish it. Start with caorse then end with some fine grade it woked good on mine. Josh

Would you be interested in a Vinyl tank cover?

I don't have one, just wondering if you thought about that.

here's some incentive to get on the wetsanding. i won't lie, it's alot of freakin work, but look at the results, can't beat it without buying different plastics.
like was said above, get yourself a case and have at it!!!

Wow, those wheelers look great. I guess I will need to work at it a little to fix up my tank.

Good info.

Does wet sanding work for taking out a lot of scratches too?

depending on how bad the gouges are you can start with 120 grit, go to 220,300,500,800, then wet sand it with 1200 takes a while but it will look good

thanks for the compliments guys. as i said before it's a helluva lot of work and if you can afford it i recomend buying new plastics.
the finish sanding with 1000 grit then 1500 grit is aweful, seems like you're just not even doing anything to them at all.
now instead of goin all the way i just finish up with about 800 grit or so then just use used motor oil to polish them up. leaves a helluva shine on them, but ya gotta make sure to try and wipe as much as possible back off or you'll be collecting too much dust. the reason for the oil (without doin the finishing sanding) is to moisten the raised parts of the scratches from the paper. kinda like a car with a faded paint job that looks sooooo good when it rains. if ya wanna cheat, use oil, if ya want them right ya gotta sand to about 1500 grit then hit it with some buffing compund to finish them off and they'll look great.
if you've got real bad plastics, don't go in with too low a grit, you'll regret it later in the sanding process when you're tryin to sand out lines you put from your 40 grit!!!!! LOL
good luck,
steve
