Pull starter

My honda 200 pull starter does not seem to enguage. When i put my other one on it starts just fine so i know its the starter. I took it apart, and looks fine. Any ideas

does the rope spring back but just does not engage on the motor ?

there are 3 wire clips that push the 3 fingers out to grab the crank if one is missing or broken the fingers won't engage..... grease them up if the unit is rusty

while the starter is off, pull the cord and see if the teeth come out, if not, you might need a rebuild kit.
