i found out my newly aquired 84r has a '300 head on it'. why would this be put on? is it for better cooling? more horse power? someone told me it was a hondaline 300 head, but i cant find out too much about it. what mods besides intake would go well with this mod? thanks for the help!

it is for more horsepower. put on a different, pipe, filter, rejet carb, port and polish, would go good with it. im not a 2 smoke guy though, maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

I thought the 300 head had an extra stud and can only be used with the 300 cylinder. Maybe you have a DG head?

I was under that impression also. Or maybe you got lucky and you got the whole 300R topend :D

is there any way for me to tell if its the whole 300r top end or the dg head w/o tearing the head off? oh, and does anyone besides DG still make air cooled 'r exhaust systems? i have the dg slip on but it sucks! my friends 300ex w a t4 is wayyyyyyy louder than my 250r, should i try to find someone who would custom make one?

This is what a DG head looks like. I think you have the 300 kit, count your head stud bolts. You should have 7. I have a nice CT pipe for a 83-84 R for sale. I think DG is your only other option.

here's some pics of a complete 300R Hondaline jug on the 250R bottom end...
You could also have a Mugen kit..but most likely a Hondaline kit.. do you have pics of yours? A pic = 1,000 words!

PS - I have a couple of aftermarket pipes here... not sure what they are from! Sometimes you can find Kerker or Bill's pipes on ebay. My 300R motor came with a 85R carb on it.... always a good mod too!

crap, im starting to wonder now, i think the jerk lied to me. i can only count 6 head bolts, and there are diagonal cooling fins on the head, unlike the 300r kit which is just vertical and horizontal, do i just have the regular r? pix coming soon

when i cant get a ride i just piss off the neighbors, and ride on my street lol. usually i go to four peaks, bushnell tanks, payson; but the trails are rough stuff, and out in the desert by apache junction. the trails that border saguaro lake are nice, you can drive right onto the beach and camp in some places. theres a couple of tracks near here but id rather go shooting and camping in the desert. i just jump around to different places near mesa every weekend. hope this gives you some ideas of places to check out! :beer

That would be a regular 250R head..... also you have your petcock on reserve.... not a good idea to ride like that.... "ON" is when the handle part is down. I'd hate to see you out in the middle of the AZ desert and run out of gas and have no "Res" to turn to!!
The 81/82R pipes are NOT interchangeable with the 83/84R's
Bruce
PS - Here's a pic of my 82R with the 250 head next to Todd's 81R with the NOS 300R kit on it. Easily one of my favorite trikes I saw at Trikefest! You can see my petcock is in the "ON' position.
