I just noticed today that the primary drive gear and the clutch basket gear are not lined up.

Are they supposed to be flush with eachother? Because this could explain why my clutch wont disengage.

Maybe there is something behind the clutch housing that isnt letting it go back all the way.

I can't get that nut off on the clutch boss. I searched the forums and someone said to jam the gears with a penny, but you cant, because when I spin the nut, nothing else moves, not the basket or any visible gears, I tried putting it in gear, and still nothing.

Thanks for any help.

(how do you like the Paint edit? :D )

If you look at the wear marks on the clutch of the pictures you provided you can tell where the primary is suppossed to sit.

I noticed those wear marks too. I wasnt too sure though.

As for using an impact, I can't see any gears moving when I spin the clutch boss, so I dont know where to jam the gears.

Well, I just went and got the big torque wrench from work to try to get that nut off.

I put it in first, and got a hold of the nut, I tried loosening it, but it didnt budge.
I was going to put it back in neutral, and now it doesn't shift out of first!

I am getting pretty PO'd right now.

hey yamahauler,
just a wild guess but by chance are the threads on that shaft reversed?
If Im not mistaken , one of the nuts on a Honda clutch is reversed threads, just trying to help, Dave

Nope regular threads, Ive took it off before, but I cant remember what I held.

Thanks for the help anyways.

Anyone know what to hold.

If Your Clutch Won't Disengage At All, I Would Say That You Have A Washer In The Wrong Place. Looks Like A Yamaha & I Have Never Been Inside One, If Its Like A Honda, There Is A Washer Behind & In front Of The Clutch Basket. It Looks Like Both Are In The Rear Of The Clutch Basket. Which Would Lock The Two Sections Of Your Clutch Together Does The Center Section Turn Freely From The Basket? Mike Was Rite Put Something In between 2 Gears & Turn That Nut Off. Another Thing, If You File Those Grooves Off The Clutch Basket, The Disks Can Float & Not Get Stuck In Those Grooves & Keep Clutch From Releasing.

I just re built the tranny in my yamahauler and took that nut off with impact wrench it came right off. Far as lining up on the gears my 85 200 ern lines up perfectly I had problems with it not clutching and found that my clutch basket was not aligned up with the little arrow on the basket

Well the clutch was disengaging before and then it slowly let out and wouldnt disengage.

Now, I'm wondering what can I hold on to while I loosen the nut?

I tried putting it in gear, and then tried cranking the nut off with a torque wrench and it wouldnt budge the nut, it just kept turning the clutch boss as I held the wheels.
Now it won't shift out of first gear.

Does The Center Section Turn Freely From The Basket?.
Yes it does.

I was going to do that too, but i know that isnt all the problem becuase it doesnt push out far enough.

Does It Have A Release Rod Or Does It Have Something That Pulls The Pressure Plate Out Off The Disks? If The Clutch Basket Has Too Many Washers Under It. Then It Will Be Out Too Far For The Actuator To Pull On The Rod Or Push It. If You Put Some Thing Between Those 2 Gears, The One On The Crank & The Clutch Basket Then It Should Come Loose Unless Maybe Someone Has Put Lock Tite On The Nut, If So You Will Need An Impact Or A Little Heat From A Propane Tortch. Try Spinning The Center Hub Were The Nut Is Your Trying Take Off, While Trying To Shift Shifter Out Of 1st & Also Make Sure The Shifter Shaft Can't Pop Off The Shift Drum With The Side Cover Like A Honda Will.

Yea I'm Sorry It Will Spin Free You Need An Impact.
