Well.. last night i finally tore into the 200 ES motor.

My plan is to use the cylinder and head and transplant the whole thing to an XR tranny..

After removing the CDI cover. rotor. cam chain, head, etc.. I noticed that who ever put this thing together last put too much gasket maker on the surface and it totally blocked the oil passage to the cam.. there is a piece that goes over the cam end on the right side ( not the cdi side.. ) wich has an oil passway.. it was not getting any since the last rebuild.

One problem tho.. stupid me managed to drop the locating pin from the cam ( for the rotor ) into the bottom end.. am going to have to go fishing.. arghhh

And this thing ran !!!!! imagine that !

Bigred are you sure about the silicon thing?... Because thats what I thought with my 200x ... and there IS suppose to be a rubber piece in that hole.. the rubber piece actually has a hole in it too, and re routes the oil to the cam "better" ... You better make sure ;)

Did it really "stink" up there? My Daily Driver 350X had it's clutch changed out prior to Trikefest '04. After some riding, the valves started clacking which was a new thing.... we adjusted them, but still couldn't get it to go away.

When I got back, the "banned and nameless" and I went to adjust the valves and it just stank up there! We started it up with the inspection covers off and sure enough, not a drop of oil was making it up to the head! Thought for sure the oil pump was toast, but come to find out we had lost a little seal/bushing internally where the oil line attaches to the oil pump. We replaced that and started it up and oil was making it to the head! I ran my 350X all weekend at Haspin w/o oil to the valve journals/cam!! The cam was a bit scarred for life, but the "B and N" stood behind his work and intalled a cam out of a crate motor into my 350X (along with a different top cap cause we couldn't break free the bolt to change my lifters). He was going to have to send in a "core" replacement for when he builds the crate motor up, so figured he might as well send in my spent cam, then to send them a NOS cam out of a crate motor!

Thing runs like a raped ape now!

Yep like short4stuff said....
there is a silicon bung thing........this was put in the engine after machining....it blocks the machine hole up........it then helps directs the oil onto the cam..........

Well. there was oil in the head.. so some was getting in there. but that plug you guys talk about.. hmmmmmmmm i need to re-read my manual.. i don't recall reading about this. Thanks for that tidbit.

The smell was not unusual.. blacking oil, needed changed. but not out of the " ordinary ".
