I was talking about this in another thread and decided to post some pics here in bikersville.

WOW 19-20 years ago!!!

This is the first bike I ever owned 1983 RM 80 (washed alot of dishes in a restaurant at 14 years old to buy this) . Forgive the pics these were taken pre digital era on a kodak disc camera.

Heres the scoop. Growing up my parents were low on funds. I hung out with well to do kids. They all had dirt bikes and ATVs. I actually used to ride my 10 speed down to watch them ride  . My parents told me if I wanted a bike I had to buy it myself. For christmas though before I owned a bike I asked for a Bell Moto 4 Helmet (black because I had no idea what i would end up buying) You can see the helmet in one of the backgrounds. My friends made fun of me because I asked for a helmet before I had a ride. So I found a cheap RM 80 ----only three years old at the time but the cool 86's were coming out. Back then three model years of a bike made a big difference. A new kid moved in town (same age as me) his parents purchased the local sand and gravel pit. Imagine my eyeballs when he rode up on a brand new 1986 fourtrax 250r back in 86. It was well beyond a dream. Well, I tore my bike down and tried to upgrade the look by painting the forks silver, frame blue etc. It was a far cry from my friends rides but I finally had a bike to call my own and I worked on it myself :w00t: And we rode that sand and gravel pit just about everyday for our entire high school journey. Now I can buy pretty much any ride I desire but I cant buy my old 1983 rm 80 and black bell moto 4 back. I can only dream about having these back in my collection. Thinking of them make me :D

that is a very nice bike, i love the old bike looks, i ride the new fourstrokes when i am on the mx tracks, and i sometime think about how the industry did a full circle, it use to be that fourstrokes were all dirtbikes, and then twostrokes came out and they were like o nothn beats my thumper not even your rattle can ride, now the pingers are fallin off and fourstrokes are back, i love the old dirtbike look i really do, someday i might have me a cr250 or cr500 in the 88-89 they came with disc brakes, great story man
nice bike

I remember that bike. The '83 was a good RM year. I had a test from Mini Cycle magazine and Larry Brooks was testing the RM 80. Bike looked sweet...great yellow color that year!

Hey good story man. Reminds me of my youth, very similar only I wasn't even allowed to have a bike, even if I could come up with the $$. So after 2 years of watching everyone else ride, my parents got divorced and I saved up $300 to buy an 81 XR80. I was 12 yrs old. My mom about killed me. But I still have it, never did let it go. It needs some help now, but still starts first kick and runs like it did the day I got it, 16 years later. However, what is lacking is that I only have one or two pics of it from back in the day. Moral of the story- take lots of pictures and don't ever get rid of anything.
