These are some welds from my little 135 Hobart(Miller). I'm not the best welder in the world but they hold. ;)

you flux core looks good, is that with the same 135?

Yeah, your flux turned out good. Mine always have way too much spatter....

Same 135, the flux core does leave splatter. It's like little balls but brush off easy with a wire wheel in the grinder. I seem to get a hair better penetration (seems like I get more amps) with the flux core so I switch to that when I need just a little more.

Funny!

Seriously though, did anyone else notice that the groom seems to have pulled off a pretty nice score there?

Good times,

Thanks John. I like this little welder a lot but to be honest I'm used to a little more. I've been eye balling either the Miller 210 or 251. If I did upgrade I'd still never part with it, it's just to nice and light weight. The only thing it won't do is aluminum, just doesn't have the amps for it.

I've got to get my Mrs. to start buying me tools. She likes buying me movies she likes instead, .

you know the welds we all share on out 20 plus year old trikes ,,,, they really look like crap compared to what can be done by us garage kings in our spare time ( perfect example is O.S 's welds ).
i know my 350x (85) frame welds look like total dogcrap compared to todays welds.

What kind of sheilding gas are you useing on the flux? We use C25 on flux at the shop and it leaves vertualy no spatter. And on hard wire we use a tri mix called Moongone. I'll get some pics for you guys later today when I stop buy the shop.

I'm suprised you run shielding gas with a self shielding wire. The flux is there so you don't have to use gas so I don't use anything for that but the solid I use C25(CO2 mix). I'll have to do some research on the Moongone.

When I resized the pics, you cant really see the welds. Here are 2 aluminum swingarms that I built for my 250R's. One is + 7or 8 and the other is +2. I TIG welded them with my Lincoln Tig welder.

Very nice...Went with the laegers style design for the shock mount bracing I see. Probably the simplest and easiest way to go about it. I'm gonna have to build one for my 500R soon.

I use no gas at all. When you said you used flux core one that one weld, I was quite suprised to see no spatter. Always thought that gas was to be used with solid core, and flux was just on it's own...

Here are a few spec's as to why my shop uses C25 as a shielding gas. When welding plates that have to pass a UT (Ultrasonic Test) we use C25 with the flux core to acheive better penatration, higher tensile strenghts, and flawless welds. It allows for better fusion between multiple passes that are much easier than useing hard wire or a stand alone flux core.
