I've been lurking a long time but don't post much. Always seem to find answers to my questions in others posts. But...
I've got an '85 110 that I've had for several years. It has never ran quite right. I rebuilt the carb awhile ago and it now starts much easier. The problem is when riding, at about 1/4 or 1/2 throttle and above, it seems to get real lean and not want to run. I think it's lean because when I put the choke on, it runs better, but if I let off the gas and forget to take the choke off, it dies. It does smoke a little, mostly at start up.
Any ideas what can cause this or what to do to diagnose this problem?
I bought a Honda service manual off e-bay, but it is missing the last couple of pages in the "troubleshooting" section, pages 17-3 and 17-4. They deal with "poor performance at low and idle speeds" and "poor performance at high speeds" Can anyone scan or photocopy these pages?
Thanks for the help!

Well, I think I found a big part of the problem last night. :w00t: I was looking at the pics in the service manual and realized the "vent tube" was missing off the carb. I put a piece of clear tubing I had laying around on it and now it runs through all the gears at any throttle setting with no problems. At least it runs well enough now that I can do a little tuning-too late last night after I found a piece of hose that fit. Does anyone know what the length of this hose should be?
Now that I know it can run reasonably well, the next step is compression test, set the valves, set the timing chain tension, etc, etc. Then, tackle the tranny...

Every so often it seems to stick between gears, both upshifting and downshifting. Not every time, but maybe 10% of the time. If I really pay attention and move the shift lever the full distance, it doesn't seem to happen. Not sure if it's a shift lever/linkage problem or possibly clutches. Happens mostly when my 10 year old daughter rides it.
Any ideas?

The shifting problem would be due to her foot being a smaller size and her not yanking all the way up or maybe not being able to yank all the way up (or push down) due to her small size. If this were a street/sport bike you would be able to adjust the linkage turnbuckle to move the shift lever up or down, but since it's an ATC you should be able to move the shifter up or down on the splines to help adjust the shifter to where she needs it. This adjustment and a lever reach/angle adjustment is the first adjustment that should be performed on any new motorcycle to fit the bike to a specific rider.
Correct me if I'm wrong about this adjustment procedure on the 110, I'm not as familiar with them.
Hope this helps... James

Yeah, her foot is small and she does have trouble moving the lever through the full range of motion. I've adjusted the lever postion on the splines, but it hasn't helped her much. I picked up a hand shifter at a sporting goods store that clamps on the shift lever, but haven't installed it yet. A shorter foot lever might help, although I still think there may be something not quite right in the tranny.
It doesn't help that she rides the 90, which is 4 down, and then the 110, which is 4 up. At least she likes to ride! Working on her younger sister, now!
Thanks for the suggestion.
