I just found a 225dx trimoto for 600.00 and I really want to get it. Does anyone own one our have expierence with these? It has the front and rear suspension with the shaft drive motor. What type of mods can you do with these other than piping it and boring the cylinder. Any feedback would be good. This trike runs great starts on the first or second pull.

I've never worked on any Yamaha's but I'm sure it's not much different than Honda. I really want this machine bad beacause of the full suspension. All of the trikes I've worked on and owned were front suspension only. The only trike I have now is a fully restored Big Red 200es that runs great. I was giving a friend a ride home last night after trail riding all day and I saw this 225dx sitting in some tall grass. I couldn't resist and had to ask the guy if he'd sell it. He fired it right up and I took it for a small ride and fell in love. I could actually hit jumps for the first time on a trike!!! I'm just short on cash now but the guy told me it wasn't advertised for sale anywhere and I was the first to ask. I guess I'll have to sell a few more parts on ebay. Let me know what other mods there are and if there is anywhere to get a rear fender. Thats all it needs. Thanks for the reply. I've been reading this message board for about a year and haven't really posted much. For some reason people never respond to my posts. Thanks once again. :beer

Hey Brendon

Before the mods I'd worry about what exact shape it is in stock?

The forks on those are a weak point when it comes to bending. Eye them up good and follow the "line" from the bottom triple clamp down to the axle. It of course should be the same angle as what they are between the triple clamps. About 50% of the ones I saw for sale had bent forks. Any forks you can bend by an accident but the Yamaha's definitly hold the record for bent forks.

Did you check the axle on it too?

If the machine wasn't driven hard it may all be in good shape but if drive aggressive I'd check it over very good.

If you had pictures (good pictures) we might find things on it that you can talk him down in price.

For 600 you shouldn't have to go out looking for a rear fender, at least I think so anyway. You can find them on ebay. Actually I have a spare right now that I could sell (maybe??).

What do you think the top speed is for the 225's. I didn't get it out of third gear so I don't have any idea how fast she will go.

My 200 EL will run 50 if I stretch it out (and I am talking normal air pressure in the tires, not Basketballs. ). The 225 DX ought to do low/mid 50s

About the same as a Big Red 200 only you could hit bumps without feeling like your gonna roll. How well does the rear suspension hold up. I was only able to ride it for about 10 minutes and it seemed pretty solid to me. The bumps weren't as noticeable as if I were on my big red.

It will soak up the bumps good. Not a good jumping machine though.I take 4 foot high jumps every once in awhile. You need to go to www.denniskirk.com and look loof for the 2.5 Durablue wheel spacers and drop the outside diamater of the tires to 20'instead of 22' that are on there.

Umm are you sure? I have 2 DR's and 1 DX and it does 30-40 mph toped out.

I said "should". That was based on the fact that my YTM 200 will run exactly 48 (on a gps). Totally stock. I think you got a problem if you're not even touching 40. Hell, my stock 200s will run 51.

Well my Tri Moto runs high 50's or possible 60 mph.Something doesn't sound rite...Your 225 Tri moto will only do 40 mph.

Mine is in ok condition. But the DX is less powerful than my DR's (wierd) and the throttle is messed up on it. :(

Check the valve lash.If that needs adjustment, you should now a differance in performance if done rite.

A friend ask me to repair his Yamaha 225drn 1985. It was the first time I touch a trikes. Wow, I love this things! The DRN had an electric starter, and a reverse transmission. Now, I had to buy one for myself, and I finish with a Honda 200S 1984. It's nothing compare to the Yamaha, but it's a start!

Have fun with your 225DXN !
