I asked the same question a while back as I was thinking of getting one for my wife. I still haven't purchased anything for her, but will probably go with a 300EX or a 400EX, esepcially after reading the following review of the Phoenix.

why the hell is polaris out to ruin there name on these piece of S*** quads??? They make AWSOME sleds, the best in my opinion. I own an 89 500indy. Never had any proublems. I've riden several polaris quads, was not impressed at all. Reading that article definatly proves it.
I forget who said this, but it was so true "Leave it up to polaris to come up with some crappy quad and give it some gay name"

I am not impressed with the power of any of there big bore utility's, i think there auto trans is a joke that slips a lot under any hard riding, leave it to polaris to try it first and fail miserably, and still keep the same design in use. I like to call them the KIA of atv's.

I own a 500 4x4 scrambler and so do many of my buddies. The wives ride them during the day then we take them out at night at the dunes and just tear the living crap out of them. Last trip to little sahara in July Ty put his upside down in the water only the tires were sticking up. We flipped it over all that was above water was the rack, seat and bars. If fired up, but we did have to help it climb out of this huge hole. After that we rode for another couple of hours.
I think you guys have heard lots of stories about the old 2 stroke polaris from the late 80's and early 90's.
I agree 100% they are gonna take the same punishment my 400ex does but heck it weighs way to much to ride it the way I ride my 400ex.

The wife plows the heck out of the snow in the winter with her 400 explorer
( 1999 she bought new + I sevice out ) plus rides it in the summer on our o.r.v. trips. I had to tighten a shifter linkage bolt once + a plug change since she got it and that is it.
I can go either way with a women driving something ,,, either they just don't ride hard or they RIDE the dogcrap out of it. wife is in the 2nd. part - total abuse from flipped into bogs,,, long hours of idling ( waiting to see if it would warm up before plowing ) to genral mayham of not knowing better type of thing ( always runs in 4 wheel drive no matter what time of year ).
To me if it runs ,,, it is good ( chevy - dodge - honda - suzuki - whatever ).
I personally got a little problem with early 200x's. I will see how one of those burn in my lifetime :)

It's a peice of junk. Two of my friends got them... and I stand on my statement. I can keep up with it in 4th gear on my Honda Rancher 2WD, and it gets high-centered on ANYTHING. Impossible to trail-ride, and not much better anywhere else.

IRS and sport bikes don't mix. I predict slippy diffs, an auto trans and crap power. In other words, every other Polaris quad.

My first bike was a 95 polaris Trail Boss (back when they were two strokes). I put 700 miles on it in two weeks at the age of 14. I flogged the hell out of that thing for 6 years and the only thing I changed was spark plug, belt, and tires. However, after they started transitioning everything to 4 stroke they lost the umph. and as they said earlier...made in taiwan. The company the started in Minnisota has left all desency behind. I dont know who is designing their bikes now but they sure aint what they used to be.
