Rusty stator plate

I was taking apart my atc 70 motor today for my rebuild and when i got to the stator plate it was all rusty the points the condensor and both coils all rusty along with the crank it has some bad rust on it right behind the woodruff key,anyone ever have this problem before i was thinking about spraying it with electrical parts cleaner think it would work?

That wont take the rust off, some of it might wipe off or sand off, then try that "rust remover" stuff that they use for body work (Rust Mort is a good one - phosphoric acid) to turn it black. It wont hurt the stator or ignition coil but it can damage crank seals and if there are any nuts in there, itll rust them. Nothing worse than rusty nuts.
