200 Big Red low & high range gearing

I aquired a 200 BR about 3 weeks ago and am just wondering how the high range gearing is towards a normal 200 S?

Think it's taller, lower or almost the same?

In low range, just how low is it or rather what is the top speed in low range? 25 or so?

Don't know if I'm going to fix it or part it out as it is border line of being a parts bike but the motor does run and electric start does work.

Id say 5th low is more like 3rd high 1/2-full throttle.. but thats just me.. lol.

I had 2 friend on back (270 total), me (240 total), and a friend on front (140 total) and we went trail riding on it. Now it didnt steer very easy but we went probably 8 miles on trails.

Yup. In low range, those babies can definately pull. We put 3 people on the rear rack of my dads Big Red, one on the front, and me driving.. and it did just fine. I had to keep it in 1st gear low the whole time we were going up a hill, but damn it pulled us up that hill without much problem. After we conquered the hill.. getting back home was no problem seeing as its mostly flat. And mind you, 4 of the people were guys, and the other was my girlfriend. On the front we had a kid that weighs approx 240 lbs.. me driving, who weighs 245.. and on the rear we had a girl that weighs 130, and my 2 other friends probly weighed around 290 total.
The only reason we did this was because they were all too lazy to walk back to the house (we all went for a walk.. then I ran back to the house to get the Big Red because they wanted to drive it). I was very scared that one of the racks was going to snap, but damn.. they held up good!!

You guys should get a picture of that + do it up a notch by attaching a trailer on it with a bunch of guys on it also + going up a hill.

We were goin fishing so we loaded the suzuki up with gear and everyone else rode on the trike


Edit: there was 1 on the back (his brother was driving quad. Sorry. So there was about 500 lb on there.)

We do that every Saturday!! Although there aren't 5 on the trike and some in the trailer. Lol. We have cookouts, and all the little kids always want us to ride them around. So me and my girlfriend ride on the trike and we haul probly 7 little kids around in the trailer. But mind you.. that is nowhere NEAR the weight we had her haulin the one day :)

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention. If you want to be able to steer well.. never sit a 240lb kid on the front-end. I had good traction, but god.. I strained myself tryin to turn that thing.. lol.

lol yep. My friend who weighed 140 made it a pain in the ass to steer. my firend tried to steer with my 240 ass on front and couldnt. Lol that "22 lb" weight limit warning on the front rack is a joke.

BTW did the front tire get folds in it when you turned? It did when I turned on pavement :rolleyes:

Yeah. Its held 240 lbs and still hasn't broken. 22 lbs?? I wonder what they were smoking when they put that on there. 50 is low, but more towards what it can really hold. And I COULDN'T steer that thing unless it was moving and i turned it little by little. I'm lucky that I'm a big person, or I wouldn't have been able to handle it.

In low my 200 BR hauls almost anything, I think I even used it to pullstart an old 2cyl John Deere once, and my 82 used to haul a quite large water tank full of water, uphill!

I didn't even look at the front tire while we were doing this. I was more concerned about the front or rear racks snapping and my dad being pissed.

About the gearing.. 5th in low. is slow but if you rev it up it will scoot along.. compare it to 3rd gear in high.

I really never used Low in my 200 ES much at all.. 1st gear on high pulls just about anything as is.

The only reason I ever use low is if I'm hauling quite a bit of weight (like when my girlfriend is riding and we have a trailer full of little kids) and I use it to get going, and then I switch into 2nd high and go from there.
