View Full Version : Nooooooo!!!
i have bad bad news. my dad might make me get rid of my trike!! it has a bit of a sticky throttle and doesnt idle as low as it should. any way he was moving it outa thwe way cuz we were cleaning up our yard. now i have told him plenty of times to be careful wen * put it in gear it idles high so if * dont stand on the break and put ** bum over the tank it wheelies. it tries to wheelie even if * do wat i just said. any way he got on sat back all comfortable like poped it in gear and flipped it over on himself. i knew he wouldnt listen so i was readfy for it and quickly shut it off. some kicking and name calling came after. the poor trike, she didnt deserve to be treated that way. any way he was all like i want that thing outa my yard!! after he was done kiking it. he has calmed down and i think ill be able to keep it still if i play my cards right. only a small injury he flipped it on concrete so he has a small brushburn on his back, mostly a hurt ego.

Did you try to turn the idle screw down? All you need to do is take that carb off and give it a good cleaning! I'm sure it will cure your choke problem as well. And for GOD sakes man turn the idle down.
i turned the idle down all the way. im not even aloud to start it till we take it apart.. if i get keep it. i think the throttle is sticking and not going down all the way. if * dont kno how to drive it right the throttle gets stuck... my dad's friend flipped it twice cuz hes dumb and shifts up even if the throttle is sticking.

Maybe it's time to inspect the throttle cable... Look for any damage. Take it off and make sure the cable slides freely in the sleeve. If not it's time for a new one.

Yup... clean the carb, get a new throttle cable or a whole new throttle asembly if nessessary... and put an inline filter
You really shouldn't run it until you get these problems fixed...

are * sure its not an airleak? * can be sure it is after * buy a new cable and clean the carb...if it still does it then its most likely an air leak

that sux sox, hope your dad warms up to it, mine sure did to my 250r. oh, dont feel aprehensive about tearing into the carb, i just rebuilt mine, its easy if you buy the kit! just make sure you have a schematic or a diagram of the carb to know where everything is. and if you dont know exactly how everything in it works, let me know. i have tons of pics and diagrams from when i messed with mine, its easy. get er fixed up, and have fun.

Yes carburators can be very intimidating! Just ask me! I've got tons of pics and schematics also. lol The biggest problems I had with the rebuild kit was the rubber orings. The big one for the top of the bowl and the tiny one for the air screw. If you have any problems JUST ASK!

yes, fix it right, regardless of the rider. Then build a wheelie bar - itll look trick and prevent flip overs :D

Look at maybe lowering the forks in the trees.. to help keep the front end down a bit. don't need much.. an inch goes a long way.
* mean letting air out? im kinda trying not to do that cuz the ends are broken off... im never gona be able to add more air unless i can replace them.

No.. i mean slide the tubes up on the tripple trees to lower the front end down some..

Inline filters are a very good thing to have, they go in the fuel line between the petcock and carb... they filter the fuel. Should be available at your dealer.

For your inline filter just go to the auto parts store I bought one there for my 350x and its chrome and comes apart for cleaning. Also you may want to see if you could trade that 250sx for maybe a quad or something. Dont want your dad or his buddies to get hurt again

It will keep all the crap from the tank and/or gas from getting to your carb.

especially on unsealed tanks rusts devopes after years of use. This rust goes through the line into the carb and makes it dirty. By putting a inline filter on it you will help prevent rust getting in there and wont have to clean the carb. Also even if it is a sealed tank **** can get into the carb if there is dirt in the gas so the filter helps big time.

Even tho there is a very good chance a carb kit will be the cure... why not try to clean it up without it for now.. might be free !
Your dad probably has a hate problem with it now.... an hour or 2 of tinkering with his help might just be the trick... Get that idle down and maybe adjust the clutch ( clutch after the carb.... carb first. ) lower the forks in the trees if you still have problems....
But really.... i mean really.. wheeling without consent an SX is NOT a common problem they just don't do that so easy.. Set it up. How much air do you have on the rear tires ? ( should only have 3 to 5 lbs.. ) Adjust the rear shock to be a bit stiffer, Fill the gas tank if you have to.... And sit up close to the tank.. hug it with your knees and you'll be just fine.
May the gravity be with you young grasshopper.

Gravity is with me when I tip it over  but seriously whenever you get this carb cleaned your prob should be fixed. Adjust the float if you have to.

Check the routing of your throttle cable too! My 82R cable would stick and I replaced it with a MotionPro cable (about $12). It was fine until I switched gastanks (IMS plastic back to stock metal) When I did, it would "stick" if I made sharp right turns. I checked the cable routing and I found that I had it in the wrong loop behind the headlight. As I turned L-R-L-R, etc, it would creap up the loop until the cable pulled on the carb.... it's all good now.
If worse comes to worse, I live in Western NY.... I can come check it out or something....

i told him i wanted to buy a carb kit n do it myself he said to wait it might not need it. im gona have to help him do the front end on a few trucks so he'll have time to help me work on my trike. he says he wants to take a good look at it before i buy parts. and i dont have any trouble driving it. my dad n his friend do cuz they dont listen to me. I just stand on the brake and put my bum over the tank and put it in first and itll kinda jump and extend front forks like 4 inches. i warned my dad bout this but he ignored me and sat at the back of the seat and didnt hit the brake. i kno the bike pretty well so i drive it wiht the sticky throttle no problem, but because he cant he claims its far too dangerous and i cant drive it till we fix the high idle. yes i check the air pressure every few days cuz 1 of them has a slow leak. 3.5psi on the front 5psi on the back 2.

Riding the tank & standing on the brake to put it in gear is not the right thing to do. Your dad is right, it is dangerous. Wait a few days until he has the time. Otherwise you are risking too much. Your life, other peoples lives & also if there is another incident with this trike you are only making it easier for him to say "NO MORE TRIKE"
Incidents like this only make it easier for anti-trikers to say "See, I told you so".

PS I know this for two reasons:
1: I am a dad.
2: My SX was the exact same when I bought it a few weeks ago.

Chill = cool, Vespa = scooter(very popular in England), Dunstans Dominator = Motorcycle with the Triumph frame and a Norton Dominator engine. This was a true british racing bike made by Dunstans Motorcycle shop in England. These(despite their motor cc) could probably keep up with a GSXR Until the 100mph mark. The Dominator could reach a speed of 130 max. Pretty good for its time. My dad was the complete opposite of a mod.
so im guessing ** british? i shoulda got my dad to decipher that he lived in britain for like 3 years wen he was a kid.
