I just bought one from a guy at work for 225 bucks. It has bad compression so I got the second oversize piston and ringset and all misc hardware to fix it. I have to bore it a .5mm. The tires are all new. The plastic is in mint cond with maybe a scratch or 2 and is not faded. I am however missing one of the shaft drive stickers and one TriZ sticker.

These were the parts I have bought so far for it that were bad or missing

Seat cover
piston and wring set and all hardware and gaskets to redo cylinder
tether cord and clip for kill switch on back
air filter

I plan on taking the carb apart and cleaning it since it has had gas in it for some time, and also the tank.and replace the fuel lines

Is there anything else I should do before running it or for breaking it in. I do want to get a new spark plug, and wire for the boot is tore off.

The parts I bought from a local shop and they ran me a 150 total. After I saw parts on ebay I feel like I was raped.

I bought this for my son cause it was about the same price as a power wheels no it was cheaper. Plus you don't have to charge it. He is 19mo old and I wanted him to get used to riding something also. The guy I bought it from said you can govern the speed and have that teather and its pretty much as safe as a power wheels or safer.

Where would be a good place to buy the missing stickers and other parts I may need. I'll try and post a pic on weds. Thanks for your help :beer

I just had a custom seat cover made for my zinger by Moshman, they rule over there. You can allso buy all the stickers for the zinger here from Yamahatopdog I believe. I bought all the stickers for it from him and they are Perfect. Heres what I got.

does anyone on this site have a bunch of parts for them, and would sell some. I want to make this thing totally mint. I'm sure there is gonna be other stuff I will want to recondition or replace with NOS or mint used parts. Are there any really good 3 wheeler recyclers(salvage) that are good to do business with on the internet

You are at the best place probably in the world for 3 Wheeler Info and Parts. This site is full of 3 Wheeler Fanatics and they are allways willing to help out someone with a Trike. If you need parts make a List and Post it in the Classifieds section. Allso check out E-Bay as there are parts on there allso. For all the stuff to make your Zinger Mint you can get them here as I stated above. I will be selling the Flame kit for the Zinger pretty soon. So you see if you need anything or just need info this is the place to be. :beer

DG makes an Exhaust for the Zinger. Its pretty cool. :w00t:

Well I just recieved it today and I'm so dissapointed. The plastic is all faded there is rust on all the wheels. The motor was burned up the piston rings are fused to the piston. Good thing I got the second oversized piston and rings. It needs new pastic and a paint job for sure.

I don't know if I paid too much for it. I paid 225 bucks and it looks beat down, and the motors blown. The pisser is I already spent 152 bucks on parts for it. The guy told me all the plastic was in great shape and not faded and there was no rust on it last time he checked, He failed to tell me that it was 9 months ago. Thats what I get for taking someones work. And I even work with him.

What would you guys have paid for this bike. Or better yet what is it worth.
When I bought it the seat cover was torn the motor blown no air filter the stickers are all missing the tether cord kill switch missing, all plastic is faded and the wheels rusty and the shock rubber seals at the bottom are gone.

  I'd go wrap that around that dude's neck!

Although I don't understand how something like this could happen?

Didn't you look at it first?

As for the faded plastics.... You can bring them back to life with alot of sanding and elbow grease. There is a couple good threads about it on these forums. Use the search box on top of the page.

As for the stickers... Meatbox hit the nail on the head... Type his name into the searchbox and you'll find a link to his ebay store in one of the threads.

The rust... No problem at all. That is if it's not too bad. a little wire brush and some good rustoluem (sp?) and it will look good as new.

Post up some pics of this poor little thing so we can get a better idea of the shape of it. ;)

I find that working/restoring them is almost as fun as riding them...Well almost! :D :beer

EDIT: Since I have nothing better to do I got you some links.

Thanks for the help guys. Yeah its my fault I thought he was a friend and wouldn't do something like that so I took his word on the condition of it.

What I need

New grips
the rubber groments on the bottom of the forks
front # plate plastic- my mounting tabs are broke
the pad that goes on the handle bars
exhaust system- mine is really rusted and its had a hole in it rewelded
the choke and throttle cables and controls and basically what you have in your pic
Plug wire with proper boot and spark plug

How much do you want for your tri zinger would you consider shipping

I wish this one looked even a third of what yours does. I guess I can get it up and running and let him use it a few months and then when it gets cold out I can do a frame off paint job and restore it up to par like wheels and all.

I'm really interested in your too though.

Here's the DG pipe. (http://www.dgperf.com/atv/ATVProductsDetail.asp?ATVProductID=304&model=Four/Tri%20Z-Zinger) I wouldn't even think of buying a used pipe.

why not a used one in good shape

The guy I bought mine from also ran the bike with no air filter element and there is dirt in the airbox and when I took the cylinder off to go have it bore there was a small amount of dirt int he engine. How can I flush that out with some parts cleaner perhaps. I just can't believe NO AIRFILTER what a dumb ass. The piston got so hot the lower ring was fused to it(piston) and man was that piston scared up..

For the money, why not get something that is brand new? $150 isn't that much at all. Plus, at the least, a used pipe will be about twenty years old, so there is bound to be some built-up sludge on the inside and/or rust. You also said that you eventually want to make it totally mint, so why not get some good parts for it from the start?

As far as the no air filter situation, you need to check the crank bearings. If there was dirt visible in the bottom end, I can assure you that the bearings have some wear. Two-strokes are lubricated by the incoming fuel/oil/air mixture, so those bearings were awash in dirty air. I really feel for you on this one. You need to slap your co-worker something fierce!

Zinger exhaust is notorious for clogging up because of the shape and the way they are made. DG will be perfect with that little beast bored. The Zinger is peppy. :w00t:

If you need a flame job let me know I can have one for you just about any color in about a week.

As for the cost I guess it depends where you live. But I would ***** to the dude and try to get $50 back from him. If he doesnt hes no friend of yours.

Give it a chance at least. I have alot of misc. OEM in the bag new bits and pieces sitting in my room. I have alot of old usable parts also. Like wheels with hardly any rust, an exhaust system. Let me know if you need anything.

Ok I decided to keep it. I told him(who is now my former friend) that I wanted 75 bucks back cause I said it wasn't in the condition he described and it wasn't worth 225 bucks.

So I took the air box off and it was full of dirt and grass. about a 1/8th in of sludge on the bottom, so I cleaned it.

The carb. I took the bowl off and it had some sand and dirt in it cleaned it out but to my suprise no sludgey gas in it. Where are the reeds on this engine? Also the throttle control is really stiff and hard to move. There would be no way a kid could push it. Can I slid the cable from the case and lubricate it with antiseeze or something, or just repace it. Also why does the throttle cable meet up with another cable and what is it's purpose(I have no book)?

The case. Is there a oil drain on it or does the motor use the 2cycle oil for lube. I'm going to flush the case out and just use it until the winter and tear it all down and do the bottom end too. Also restore the bike also. If there is oil what weight and brand to I need to use. I've also thought about mixing my own gas cause I don't know if it still auto mixes. There had to be some reason why he cooked that piston. Either they ran it without oil in the mixer or it doesn't work. How can I test it. I just don't want to find out the hard way.... What brand 2cycle should I use yamalube or amsiol etc., and what ratio does it use.

My buddy is going to do the rear plastic for me with his highspeed buffer, but I'd like to get a new front fender if anyone has a red one they want to sell.

Well guys thanks for your help and any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

I would have told that a-hole to shove it, but I can understand the feeling of wanting to at least make an attempt to save it. It's in much better hands with you. The throttle cable sounds like it needs to be replced if you can find one. Ask around because I am sure there is another cable that can be substituted for the Zinger part if need be. I wouldn't chance the cable binding up later on when Jr. is cruising around. According to Yamaha's information, (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/epic_atv/1984_trizinger_small.aspx) the engine uses reeds, so they are in there somewhere. There should be a drain plug for the transmission oil, but there isn't one for the crankcase. It is a two stroke, so it uses the fuel/oil/air mixture to provide lubrication to the crank and rod bearings. That's why I said that I would be suspect of them in a previous post. Make sure to really check them out when you split the cases. If it were mine, I would premix the gas. I never have trusted an oil injection setup, and I never will. I use Maxima exclusively, but oil choice is really up to you. As long as you buy good quality oil and mix it properly, you will be fine. I don't know what the stock ratio is, but 32:1 wouldn't be overly rich for such a low RPM engine. I'm sure someone here knows the stock ratio.

How do I richen the mixture on the carb. Its cutting out. I think its cause its been bored to the 2nd oversize and its not getting enough fuel

bump on my carb adjustment question.

I doubt your carb is causing it to cut out even with a 2nd overbore. You didnt elaborate on what "cutting out" means, but the Zingers are famous for an internally clogged exhaust. Symptoms are that when you go past about 1/2 throttle it flattens out or even bogs, and has no power. An easy check is to take the whole exhaust off, and run it and see if the problem disappears. I have a fix for this posted in another thread if I can find it.
