ok my 200m engine in my 200x was smoking like crazy. So after looking at my opitions I just bought a rebuilt 200 trx engine off ebay it's an 84 got it for like 125.oo. the question is this. can I change this engine from shaft drive to chain drive. Using the parts from the 200m engine or should I just mate the rebuit top end and piston to the existing bottom end that I have. I think it was a good deal for the engine so if it cant be done I'll use it in somthing else. Im away at school and cant look at anything right now. If this sounds stupid I'm sorrry I just dont want my bike to smoke anymore.

Check all the mounting loops on the TRX cylinder and head make sure they match up to the existing one on the M tranny.. and transfer the cylinder. head, timing chain, piston etc...
Keep the chain drive tranny from the M on your X frame. It would be a nightmare to use the TRX tranny on a suspension frame..
That trx bottom end will bolt up to an 84 big red 200 ES tho !!!

And order up a gasket kit for the head and cylinder while you are at it.
to do a " Proper " job.. you should take that piston and cylinder and have them micrometered for wear tolerences.. have the valves checked, replace the timing chain tensioners if they are worn etc.......
this way.. that motor will run the way it should.. and not just run.. like crap, for a short while. maybe.

the engine was completely rebuilt and not run yet so the gaskets and all should be good
